Tonsilitis and Strep!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by Mars »

Yep, that's me - very, very sick. I felt fine on Tuesday and then at 3:00 I notice that when I swallowed I had a sore throat. It progressed rapidly from there. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and received litacaine for my throat - litterally can't swallow now and Z-Pac.

The chills are gone today - must have broken my fever overnight. I still feel pretty bad and am off of work again today. I can go back tomorrow if I feel up to it - a lot better change for that to happen!!!!

OK - I'm done feeling sorry for myself now. I just seem to get everything that goes around and I mean EVERYTHING!!!!!! I seem to ALWAYS be sick. It gets very old, let me tell ya!

Thanks for listening,
Mars

Mars,

Sorry to hear about your current situation. I hope you're feeling much better in a day or so.

I know this is out of the blue, but I'm gonna guess that you have hypothyroidism. One of the symptoms of the condition, is continually catching virtually every illness that is going around. You also have many of the other symptoms, if I recall correctly, and they have been going on for years, despite your doctor's best efforts.

My guess is that your thyroid test results are within what the doctors define as a "normal" range, so your doctor continues to overlook it. Since the advent of improved thyroid function testing, many doctors seem to prefer to treat the test results, rather than to treat the patient. It's the symptoms that really count, not the test results.

Do you by any chance know your thyroid test results? If, for example, your TSH level is over two, and your free T3 and/or free T4 are at the lower end of their "normal" ranges, you probably have hypothyroidism, and would feel a lot better with treatment. Obviously, you shouldn't be getting sick so often, and low thyroid function may be the culprit.

Love,
Tex

Mars, I'm so sorry to hear you're so sick! Strep stinks! I know when I get it it's much more than a sore throat. I hope the z-pack is helping and that you're starting to feel better. :bigbighug:

Mars,

So sorry to hear that you are sick and this just has to stop for you. I would take Tex's advice and get the doc to take a look and get your thyroid checked. I had a friend who caught everything that came down the pike and that was the problem she had. They found it out after looking at everything else.

Do hope you feel better soon and that the Spring sunshine gives you a lift.

Love, Maggie

Thanks everyone! The chills are gone but the blisters down my throat are absolutely gross and painful! I can hardly swallow my own spit!

Wayne, Is that the TSH (reflex FT4 if abormal)? It is marked along with a stool WBC stool, Culture, Bacterial/Sensitivity, CBC and Hepatic Func for testing.

BTW: my EGD and colonoscopy are scheduled for May 3rd. Here is the clean out procedure scheduled:
Amitiza Take 1 tablet at 10 a.m. and at 4 p.m.
Miralax powder (255g) mixed with 64 oz gatorade (no red or purple) and shake until dissolved. Drink 8 oz glass every 10-15 min until solution is gone. This is supossed to be better than go-lytly (sp?) Here's to hoping!

Love,
Mars

Mars,

Yes, you definitely want to check the TSH, (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), since that will give an indication of how much thyroid production your pituitary gland is requesting from your thyroid. IOW, if its above the lower third of the "normal" range, your body is requesting a significant amout of production, (which implies that your thyroid may not be producing enough hormone).

It's a good idea to check the Free T4 level, since that will tell you how much "free" thyroid hormone your thyroid has produced, and is in storage, available for conversion to T3, and you can check the Free T3 level, if you want to see how much thyroid hormone is actually being used. Also, a thyroid antibody test will show if you have Hashimoto's disease, (or Grave's disease).

That gatorade cocktail sounds a lot better than GoLYTELY.

Hey Mars,

You are sick with ailments to often. You seem catch everything, on top of MC and you must be so sick and tired of being sick.

Perhaps checking out your thyroid production seriously may reveal a clue to healthier times ahead in a short matter of time.

Feel better soon, ya hear.

Love,
Joanna
