More Bad News On The Melamine Problem

Post by tex »

Hi All,

The news isn't getting any better. The FDA is speculating that the melamine may have been intentionally added to the protein ingredients, in order to increase the apparent protein content, (IOW, melamine has the ability to make the protein content of a product appear to be higher than it actually is, by "fooling" the conventional testing methods).

This stuff is beginning to show up in more places, (now it's been found in some corn gluten in South Africa), and apparently some of the pet food was diverted for use as hog feed, after it was found to be unsuitable for pets, and so now pig urine from a hog farm in California has tested positive.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/04/ ... 9172.shtml

The dominoes continue to fall, as the issue works it's way through the industry. And this was just a simple misuse of a product used for pet food.

Imagine what a well-organized terrorist organization could do, if they decided to wreak havoc with the food supplies of the world. Our defenses are clearly not only inadequate, but virtually a joke. The FDA is a joke. What do they do with all the money they are granted every year? They obviously don't spend it testing imported food ingredients for safety.

This has been going on since sometime late last fall, or early winter, and here we are five or six months later, and it's still showing up in new places, and virtually nothing has really been resolved. As usual, this government regulatory agency is proving itself to be very good at spending huge sums of money, and pretending to be doing it's job, when in reality, it's been sleeping on the job again. <sigh>

Hell, the FDA can't even handle food issues within the borders of the US, what would make anyone think they could handle imported foods?

Boy, thats the truth!!! Seems like all gov't programs get bigger & bigger and cost more & more and become less & less efficient.
