Shirley,
You wouldn't believe what a great person my grandmother is! She hiked the Appalachian Trail over two summers at ages 70 and 71. THe next summer she was a ridge runner for the Massachusetts section of the AT where she basically hiked back and forth between CT and VT all summer keeping an eye on places along the trail needing maintenance. She still hikes to the nearest mall for lunch once or twice a week (about 4 miles one way). She is slowing down a bit. Gave up her snowshoes this winter. Says her hands get too cold trying to deal with bindings.
When I was a kid, she'd take us overnight hiking and berry picking. She outdoes most of us...puts us to shame really. On top of it, she has always been very active in her church. Mentored a Cambodian family who came to her town as refugees. The youngest of those kids is now in college and still writes her about how her life is going. Led Camp Fire girls when my Aunts were kids, etc., etc. I wish I had her energy. I certainly didn't get this MC and associated fatigue thing from her!
