Anyone following the wayward humpbacks?
Is this being covered nationally?? They swam up the Delta and are now 90 miles from the ocean. Marine biologists are trying all sorts of tricks to get them heading back in the right direction...It happened about 20 years ago, also. I guess what worked then, isn't working this time (plus there are 2 now!)
Hoping they make it back to where they belong while still in good health!!

Well, I was sort of keeping up with them, but I thought I heard on the news that they had finally turned around, and were headed back in the right direction. Apparently, that must have been a premature report.
The whale in charge of navigation, must be a male, otherwise they would have stopped somewhere to ask for directions, by now. LOL.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
HAHAHAHAHA to Wayne's comment.
Yes, I am following with great interest. This happens sometimes in the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. For some reason the rescue attempts don't always work. I have read that some scientists suspect that the animals who go off course may be sick to begin with or may have damaged "sonar" abilities. I hope this story is one of the successes!

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.

Re: Anyone following the wayward humpbacks?
Yep. This mornings paper said marine biologists planned to spray fire hoses in the river near the two lost injured whales in the next attempt to coax the pair back toward salt water. The method has never been tried before so they didn't know how the whales would respond. It said, if the whales like the spray, crews would try to lure them back to the ocean: if they hated it, they'll try to force them there. Biologists planned to spray near the whales both above water and underwater from the deck of a boat.CAMary wrote:Is this being covered nationally??
Interesting plan of attack, I wonder how it's going....

Looks like those two puppies are finally going to make it back to where they belong. I was beginning to wonder, for a while there.
