Barb-

Unfortunately, the "screw job" is on the part of the employer. By choosing to change insurance providers mid-year, we ALL had the clock "re-started" on April 1 for the new coverage (deductibles etc...) - so everyone @ his company is in the same boat. I guess it would have been better if I had not been diagnosed until after April 1 - then I would only be dealing with one insurance company. No wait - it would have been better (and cheaper!) not to be diagnosed at all!!

The new company also pays "2 weeks in arrears" as far as paychecks go. When he started, they only paid 1 week in arrears (he worked his first 2 weeks, and got paid for 1 on the first payday). SO to "get everyone on the same page", in April, they all worked the full month, but only got paid for 3 weeks! It will all be paid out at whatever point a person chooses to leave the company - but April is *not* the month to screw people on their checks, and it will decrease everyone's annual take-home by a week's pay. (Mike has already let HR know this really not employee-friendly stuff they are pulling!)

Anyways, he *has* to stay until November (or he'll forfeit his signing bonus - well - it's already spent so....). Plus if we job switch now, we start over with new health insurance - and have to meet the deductible again!! But he has headhunters calling all the time - so we'll look to make a change after I get through this medical crap...like he says "I can't *afford* to work there anymore" - though he likes what he does...

Funny thing is HE is usually the one to stress/worry/obsess over money stuff. I called him in tears, saying we owe such and such and they only cover 80% of hospital fees yada yada....and he says "whatever  we'll deal with it somehow - borrow from retirement funds or whatever - the important thing is saving your life and protecting your health" - so maybe this crisis isn't happening only to teach *me* something - but him as well
