How stupid can I get?
Managed to stab myself in the fleshy part of my left palm, just beside the thumb joint. Really glad it's the left hand. For a small wound its awfully sore and achey.
Went to the ER because I figured I needed a tetanus shot and possibly antibiotics. They said I did.
I probably wouldn't have gone but when I did it I thought I'd make it bleed good to "wash it out" (doesn't everyone do that?) and when I pressed beside it to make it bleed more, some fat cells popped out. Rather freaked me out.
I'm sure none of you really wanted to hear that but I thought I'd tell it anyway so perhaps nobody else would do the same.
Love, Shirley

If you get a cut that deep by doing something "dirty" it's a good idea to let it bleed out a bit...and going in to get a tetanus shot was the right choice. What were you doing anyway?starfire wrote: I probably wouldn't have gone but when I did it I thought I'd make it bleed good to "wash it out" (doesn't everyone do that?) and when I pressed beside it to make it bleed more, some fat cells popped out. Those fat cells popping out would have freaked me out too, wouldn't expect to see them in our fingers. Interesting.
You'll be sore for awhile...might have to give up golf for a week or so. Heal quickly.

LOL - it was in the fleshy part of my palm BESIDE the thumb joint. I would hope not to see them in my fingers either. LOL
It took me a moment to figure out what they were. At first I thought it was some kind of pus from infection but then I thought - can't be - I don't have any infection in my hand.
You guys are going to laugh but I was just starting to peel and apple. It was on the first cut - I start by cutting out a circular chunk where the stem is located. For some reason I just skidded on over to my hand and the shape of my pareing knife just made it ideal for a real stab into my palm. Also, the knife is very sharp. It was just a stupid move from not paying more attention to what I was doing. I was glad it was an apple instead of raw meat or something like that. Course, if it were, it probably wouldn't have happened at all.

Shirley,
Sorry you had that accident. I always tend to question my intelligence whenever I do something like that, too. LOL. Stuff happens, though, despite our best intentions.
I know it's not easy to change old habits, but the next time you peel an apple, skip the first step, and peel a ring around the top of the apple, first. Then, cut out the area around the stem. With the skin gone, the point of the knife won't be near as likely to slip.
I don't really remember, but I'm guessing that I had a close call or two, (or maybe worse), before I developed the habit of doing it this way. I hope it heals quickly.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Thanks
And, I forgot to answer you Oma about the stitches - I got two of them. Dr. deadened my hand good though before he started in with everything. The shots hurt more than the stab ---- until later when it started aching. LOL
Just sore today.
