Back from the living dead

Post by JJ »

Oh boy have I been sick! On Friday I called a nurse hotline and she told me to see a doc within 3 hrs. My sis drove me.....my temp was 102.4 and the doc determined I had a doozey of a bladder and kidney infection. He gave me Cipro, but made sure that if I felt any worse, I was going for a little stay in the hospital. The Cipro started working right away, but I still felt terrible yesterday and had a temp of 101. Today I am still dizzy, weak, and sore in my tummy and kidney area, but actually ate a piece of toast with peanut butter and jam. Yesterday, I ate a bowl of cereal. That has been it.....lots of water too.

On top of everything, I had a new student arrive from Vietnam. Her English is near zero....the other student from Taiwan has taken her under her wing and has been cooking for her. On Thursday night, I made spaghetti...she didn't like it much. The problem is.,...she doesn't want to even try stuff. She tried toast with peanut butter/jelly and liked it.

I am taking her to the Asian market later...when I feel better, and try to find some Vietnamese noodles for her. But....I can't cook Vietnamese food all the time... I felt so sorry for myself this morning I had a few tears...Cathy the Taiwanese student, is moving out on the 21st. If they don't have another student for me, I won't have as much help with the rent. And...then there is the job thing....sigh....did not hear from the Children's Museum so expect that I didn't get the job.

Well...enough whining. Tomorrow, I will begin to teach my week long Arts/ Crafts summer class....Luckily it's for only 5 days and only afternoons. I have another doc appt tomorrow at 8:15. Thanks for listening! JJ

What a time to have to deal with a picky eater!! I hope she will become a bit more adventuresome soon.

So sorry you have been so sick, but I hope you are on the mend now even though you still feel sorta crappy. It does take time to recover.

Good Luck, Jill

Hi guys...back from the Asian market and I think it made her feel good that I was trying to find something she likes. Of course she likes shrimp, me too, but very $$$$$. I bought a small bag of frozen shrimp and 2 huge squids. I like calamari...as I recall if you over cook it it gets tough as rubber. I think I remember how to clean them too. My other student encouraged her to try a bite of everytihng, bless her heart. I cooked spaghetti the first night she was here...it was a no go...she also doesn't like pizza, salad or chicken..... Oh well....having her arrive this week was trying because of my illness. I still don't feel great...still a little dizzy and hot. TTFN...JJ

Me too Shirley....all of my students have liked chicken. She will eat chicken flavored ramen noodles, and she wanted chicken stuffed dumplings at the Asian market. I may do some chicken one day with a liitle Korean BBQ sauce to see if she likes it. Maybe her family doesn't know how to cook chicken???

Every day is a new day in my household, uffda!
