So I have a problem...I can't sleep when the power is out. How stupid is that? I woke up shortly after 3 this morning and realized it was very quiet in the house (no fan, no refridge etc.). Geoff has to get up at 5 for work, so he woke up around 3:30 checked his clock, I told him the power was out, so neither of us slept much...just catnapping...until about 5. So here I sit at work at 6:30am trying to rewrite a report that was supposed to go out while I was on my honeymoon, but my boss isn't happy with it, so I have to redo it. It was mostly rewritten by one of our jr. staff. But I edited and I didn't think it was that bad.
Oh well. I'm tired and the coffee isn't kicking in yet. Plus its a HHH day today...Hazy, Hot and Humid. Supposed to get up to 95. Figures....its Tuesday and we have our summer band concerts on Tuesdays. Nothing like performing in a heat wave!

Probably you couldn't go back to sleep because you were worried you wouldn't wake up in time for work. Bummer. Hope the power is back on soon and nothing in the freezer defrosted.
Maybe the band concert will be fun tonight. Maybe people will feel like coming out to a summertime concert in the park and there will be a big, enthusiastic audience and you'll all be charged up!
Do you live in Montpelier? I remember the capitol bldg. and a park there.

Nope, not in Montpelier. I'm in Springfield....about an hour south of Montpelier. Unfortunately we don't have the best venue. The bandstand is built into the hillside at the jr. high and the audience sits in the parking lot. Lots just stay in their cars. When I was in high school and playing with this group we played in front of the furniture store in the plaza....another parking lot situation. Our director would love to build a nicer venue, but all the parks in town are in residential neighborhoods without good parking so the neighbors so far have fought having the concerts in their areas.

What I hate is when the power comes back on, and the dang clock flashes relentlessly, (along with a VCR), with no hint of what the correct time might actually be.
You sure do have some large temperature excursions up there in Vermont. It seems like only a few weeks ago when you were waiting for the snow to melt off your yard. We won't even see 95 this week here in Central Texas, (in fact, I don't think we've made it to 95 so far this year), because of all the rain. The predicted high for today is 89, and up to 93 by the end of the week. We're running a little below normal, for this time of year, but that's because of the long, drawn-out wet pattern.
I hear you on the concert performances in hot, humid weather. I used to hate the heck out of performing under those conditions, back when I was still "blowing a horn". Most people don't realize how warm you get, even when the temp is pretty decent. Making music burns a lot of calories, if you're passionate about it. To top it off, if you're wearing a uniform, the traditional choice of material is wool, and pretty thick wool, at that.

Fortunately no wool here. Just black and white...I've got black capris and then a white polo shirt supplied by the band. And we don't have any mexican/spanish flare things like Malaguena this year which are fast, long and tiring and for some reason directors love to pull them out on days like today. The legion band I used to play with wore polyester...not sure that was any better than wool.
And to think Saturday is was in the 60s and breezy and I was chilly when in the shade in my sundress at a friend's wedding!
