Emily's Blood test Results are back.

Post by ronipow »

She has no H-Pylori, Good balance for Thyroid, No shortage of B-12. Good
CBC, and a good amalayse and Lipase. We just have two more tests. Parisite test from Great Smokies and Barium X-ray. After that I don't think there is many more test I can do. We've done them all.

The last time I tried to take her off of rice and potatoes she got real depressed. But, I think this would actually do the trick for her.

I think we are going to have to go the drug route with diet until she's able to make these disicions for herself. After her stool sample is out we are going to start the pepto treatment and if that doesn't work, I'll ask if she can go on Asacol. I hope if it gets to that we can start out with a low dosage first. It has been 5 months of battling this. She is better, from where we started, but not great. She is still tired, her lower back still hurts, and her stomach still bothers her after she eats. Funny, that it's
no her colon that is hurting all the time.

Maybe it is stress that is the major contributor. I feel like I've turned over every stone.

After the test come back, I'm going to see if she'll try to do the Specific Carbohydrate diet for one month and see if there is any improvement.
I'll have to bribe her big with some goodies.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Yes, you are doing a wonderful job. I know it's not easy for you or for Emily.

I'd like to make a suggestion regarding the Asacol, if you don't mind. It's only my thoughts on it, but since it can take so long to start working, I feel that it would be better to start off on full dosage and taper down later when the symptoms are under control.

Just my opinion.

Roni,

Don't feel bad if you have to add the meds. It'll probably just be for a short time, anyway. I just hope that Emily won't have any side effects from anything.
Please continue to keep us posted.

Oh, and one other thing -- I'm getting impatient for Enterolab's new tests to be offered. I noticed that even though it's available, that the soy test still isn't showing up on their order form. Whaz up with that?!

Roni, this is a note of encouragement. You are doing a wonderful job with Emily. Yeah, I surely wish you were MY Mom.

Oh Roni,

Don't give up yet - you've done so much and come a long long way. You are such a caring and dedicated mother. I know 5 months seems like a long long time when you daughter is suffering so much - and yes, I know you think you've turned every stone. You have, havn't you?! It is hard work to figure out the diet of a multiply intolerant individual - probably even harder when it isn't yourself. You don't get the feedback that we do when we test things on ourselves. That must be difficult.

You may be right to choose trying Asacol. A lot of people have had good results with Asacol. It will give you a break. Then perhaps you can start over again with a diet that is free of the known allergens - when you daughter is ready for it.

Back when I was trying to figure out what made me stay sick day after day even though I thought I had eliminated "everything" from my diet I felt somewhat hopeless; it turned out that it was a very minor thing I had overlooked - but it was enough to make me keep pooping liquid many times a day and suffer from all kinds of other discomforting symptoms. To think that such little things can make us so sick is very baffling. All I am trying to say is that you may be very very close to the goal without knowing it.

Much love,
Karen

Know whatcha mean, Karen.

Last thing that got me was some Raspberry Salsa and it was the "natural raspberry flavor" that I somehow overlooked. Sure wil be glad when that food labeling law goes into effect. Wow, only July through Dec. to go..yeah!!

At least now it's soooo rare that I goof that it's easy to find what caused ONE poop that wasn't my now "usual," formed stool. This is definitely a good place to be, and I sure hope Emily will settle into a workable program to achieve normal stools soon, but I know it's really hard, particularly at her age. I remember how discouraging it used to be to find still another thing that I'd thought to be safe having to be eliminated, but eventually, that will just be a faint memory even though right now, it just doesn't seem to you like that time will ever arrive.

Stick with it, and we're here for you as you do!

Yours, Luce
