Hi Lucy,
I recently started subscribing to Scientific American mainly because I think my two little boys would enjoy some of the articles (LOL - they are written at a rather high level, but what the heck, 2nd and 4th graders may benefit from reading at a higher level). Well, I don't have much time to read any of it right now but I read a little in the most recent issue about news on Parkinson's Disease and thought I would mention it to you. There is an article and a schematic showing what happens in a person w/PD.
How's your mother? Is the GF diet doing her any good?
I still admire you and your sister for doing the testing and the dieting together; I know you've been the primus motor in the process and w/o you your sister and mother may never have arrived at the cross roads they've come to. You are a great caretaker!!
Love,
Karen

Hi Karen,
No, hadn't seen that issue, but did you happen to see the article on Lupus in the March issue?
Like the schematics too.
Mom seems to like the meals I get at the diner by our friend the chef, so the few times we eat out, she usually just gets what my sis and I get, only she gets her fried rice with gf LaChoy whereas we get ours plain. She has the double CD2 gene, but only has a mild gs without any other sensitivities (haven't actually tested for soy on any of us, but she's the only one who eats it since I seemed to have had a problem with it in the past.)
Did have a bit of sad news this afternoon when took a little R&R - talked to our chef friend, and now he's wanting someone to teach him how to become a baker as he wants to open up a "coffee shop." He said it would have to be a flexible program or he couldn't do it, so I tried to think of ways he might approach it in his situation, but my heart isn't in it since that's really the only place we can eat and feel relaxed without spending an arm and a leg.
On the brighter side, there is a lady who's recently started a catering business who's actually come up with some reasonably priced
meals that would be appropriate for our MI needs, and she's got MUCH more to offer for folks like Mom who're just GF.
Mom loves the dessert type things, so the WFs gf baked goods are really helping out there, although I must admit she often requests Pamela's pecan cookies over those.
Oh, and reason the chef's wanting to change is that he thinks the restaurant business is just too difficult (has awful hours, plus a fairly new baby at home and a wife he'd like to spend more time with, sooo..).
Will check and see if my b-i-l has that issue, and if not, see if they'll pick me up one at the store. Would this be the July issue already or was it June?
Thanks so much for thinking of us!!
Yours, Luce
