Tanzulas, turtles, turkeys, and cows

This can only happen to me.....I went to town to get a few things needed. (16 mi) we have had a migration of sorts of brown and black Tranzula (spiders) turtles all going across the road the whole length of the 16 mi into town. Anyway I was coming back singing away to Leanne Ryhmes trying to dodge the tranulas and turtles. All of a sudden out of no where there were way too many of them and I was zig zaging around them...when out of no where came a turkey hen followed by two more space just about right for me to hit them...so I put both feet down on the brakes and started to slide. I slide til I saw turtle (Big Turtle) sitting in the middle of my path. I stopped just short of making him a candidate for turtle soup. My heart was pounding in my throat.....Ok I get my composure back, pick up the spilled groceries and start again. There are some pastures I have to pass to get to my county road. A cow darted out from a hole in the fence and made me put both feet on the brake again. There was a lot of water running across the road and it caused me to slide once again....praying and hoping I did not go in the ditch with all the deep mud and water. I think I am going to have a few beers this evening. I stopped finally and low and behold there was another turtle there in the road. Anyway I am off to have a miller light chill chalada style beer and put my feet up.....that's enough thrills for today. Love Oma

Sounds like a Zoo there. They must have missed the Ark when it went by the other day.

Oma,

You dang sure do seem to be having a mass migration. I hate to bring this up, but in this part of the country, if you see even one turtle or tortoise crossing the road, it's a sign of big rains on the way within a day or too. It works for snakes, too, but I don't know about spiders.

The thunderstorms keep streaming by pretty close to us today, but so far they're missing us. Unless one catches us before midnight, it looks like we're gonna close the month with 12.48 inches of rain, with 37.32 inches for the total so far this year. Our "normal" annual rainfall for this area is 35 inches.

Tranulas will migrate to higher ground when rains are on nthe way as well as tutles. We have been seeing this for the last two weeks or more. I do not expect to see dry ground til it's actually there.
My herbs have finally started to dry out enough to allow the new sprouts to appear. The rains were keeping them way too wet. I moved them to real high ground in the barn. Lovce Oma

I loved your story! We had tarantulas here somewhere but thankfully I have yet to see one in the wild! Bless your heart for caring enough to try and save all of those little creatures instead of making them road pizza. Just be careful to take care of #1 first while driving! Send some rain back our way, would ya?

I nearly wrecked my car one time trying to avoid a squirrel during an Ice storm will not do that again....I shall be careful. Love Oma
