Joanna (and everyone else!)- MN trip

Post by CAMary »

Hi Joanna!

I just checked the PM I sent to you and in my rush I gave you my home phone, not my cell # :banghead: - I hope you didn't try to call?

We were "up north" for a few days - but I don't think we were close to Fergus Falls - more between Grand Rapids/Duluth. Anyways, I just go along with my MIL's agenda - (and believe me - she always has one  ) and we spent 4 days with DH's family 24/7. The kids had a blast - most of the 22 grandchildren came!

I had Mike secretly drop me @ the mall the night we got back from the lake.....he was going to go visit an old friend...we were staying @ Mike's sister's house - next thing I know, my MIL has planned an impromptu dinner party and shows up w/food and a few other relatives (umm didn't we all just spend 4 days together!?!) Anyways Mike could see I had had "enough" - so we told them we were BOTH going to see his friend, and I actually chilled out @ Barnes & Noble and grabbed a bite to eat all alone...

I *did* load up on goodies @ Bittersweet GF Bakery - I had muffins for breakfast and too many chocolate chip cookies! Friday 10 of the cousins went to an amusement park - my son talked me into going on a HUGE roller coaster - it was fun! Then Sat. was my in-laws 50th - I got my GF meal and had a nice chat w/ my FIL's cousin, who had breast cancer 7 years ago, and actually lives about an hour north of here - so we're planning to meet for lunch sometime this fall  I didn't know 90% of their friends, so luckliy I had someone to chat with!

We made it home last night - waiting now on the airline to deliver one lost bag, then it's laundry galore! I haven't been home one weekend this entire month of July! I'm ready to do the relaxing homebody thing for awhile!

We go back in 2 years. Well, maybe. We asked them to tweak the date so we don't have to always have our anniversary there  and Mike says he is taking me "somewhere" in '09 (it will be our 15th!) but I heard MIL say she has "reserved the same week - otherwise it gets complicated" (or she doesn't like to give up control - whatever!) in any case *I* am staying out of it!!! My husband saw a different side to his parents this trip - and I know he is bothered by it...

Ahhh family!

HI Mary,

Sounds like you had a great trip other than people planning everything you had to do. Good for you taking the time to just chill at B&N and dinner alone.

I am really looking forward to our vacation in Maine and getting to see the "we invited ourselves" family from England. Don't get me wrong, but I love them and will enjoy seeing the grandsons so much. My friend who spends a good bit of time in England has a saying - "The Brits travel in packs" and they do. Frank has already given them notice that I just might not be able to do everything they have planned. Drat the internet on that one. Could have told them there was nothing to do but just relax.

Anyways, I am going to make the most of it but it is still my vacation. I hope I don't have to steal the time like you did. Believe me Mary, make it 2 years minimum from now.

Love, Maggie

Hi Mary,

Maybe for your 15th he'll fly you in to see his family, drop the kids to spend time with their cousins (good grief @ 22 grandchildren...that's a lot of cousins!) while you two go off and find a quiet cabin alone on a lake somewhere.

Glad you survived. And good luck with the laundry. The kids just got home this weekend from camping with their mom and we are headed to Wisconsin on Thursday, so I will be doing the same this week.

Mary,

Looks like your doctor was right on the money with his prediction. LOL.

Glad you made it back safe and sound.

Ahhh! Too funny!

And yes, Tex - I'll have to tell my PS he was right on the money

Mags- I hear you about vacationing with family - not always relaxing! I kept disappearing into our room to read (I finished 2 novels in 5 days!) and avoid the mosquitoes - I'm sure everyone thought I was anti-social - but that's what *I* like to do on vacation :vacationsign:

I did take several naps, and mostly stayed with the little kids @ the amusement park...I did my stretches faithfully, and can already tell my range-of-motion is better than when I left - I'm probably 75% of normal...

I'm more of a homebody by nature, and glad to be done with "obligations"! Bring on the R & R :music:

35 days until school starts

Hi CAMary!

Whew, I'm exhausted just reading your post. Family IS exhausting, no doubt about it. I think several of us here have similar MILs. I'll be doing the family thing at the beach in Aug. when Scott is on vacation. After that, the 2 of us are going to recuperate by going to the mountains for a few days. LOL!

I can't believe how well you have healed. You certainly have the perfect attitude! You are an inspiration, that's for sure.

Love,

Polly

Mary,

Next time you come to MN lets try to make time for us to visit, maybe this fall when your husband comes to duck hunt? I'm into hunting, are you?

I'm here for the long hall, and it is great. Family is family, I'm dealing with that too.

Love,
Joanna
