Well we have finally gotten some rain & our new tank is full. They are not counting the drought as broken as yet but the rain we are getting will, we hope, help stave off further restrictions for a while. Only problem is we also have gale force winds & there has been some damage to property, especially near the coast. They reckon that the rain will stick around for a couple more day. Hope they are right. It is unusual to get lows such as this at this time of year. Reckon the whole worlds weather pattern is topsy turvey. This is the kind of weather that we used to expect in February/ March. In any case, I hope it sticks around for a little longer. The rain though, not so much the strong winds. My daughter was telling me this morning that a palm frond speared right through a tile roof & the ceiling into a room of one house. Luckily no-one was hurt. We have been keeping track of the hurricane up your way too. Hope none of our family get caught in it's path.

That's certainly good news, (about the rain, not the wind). I hope the rain continues for several more days, so that the soil gets a good soaking, while it's at it.
It was kind of funny, the way the weather service here treated the rains and the drought. For years, every time we got some good rains, they would proclaim the drought broken, but in a few months or so, we would be right back in it, worse than ever. This time, they waited until we accumulated more than a full year's worth of rain, over a period of roughly half a year, and all the lakes were flowing over the spillways, before they officially announced an end to the drought. LOL.
I hope the rains you are receiving mark the end of your drought, too.
Hurricane Dean passed by hundreds of miles south of Texas, so I don't think any of our members were affected, unless they were vacationing in Cancún, or somewhere in that neck of the woods.

Rain has stopped now but some areas are still flooded. Our eldest daughter was marooned for a while but they could get out using their 4X diesel vehicle. Everything looks so fresh after the rain & the dams got some as well & they say that level 6 restrictions will be postponed for at least a couple of months. By them it will be summer & with a bit of luck we will get some summer rains & storms. Don't want severe ones though like they have had down south & in other parts of the world. This is the worst drought in memory & I think it has made people, or most of them anyway, realise just what a precious commodity it is. I know that I will be a lot more careful in my usage in the future. You just never know when the supply will cease. Got to save every little bit for the future.
