Had the bacterial overgrowth test.
It was negative. I think I will ask for the Entocort. I am just not getting any better. They are talking about doing the capsule study - swallow the camera pill.

Hi Pat,
I'm not sure if a negative result on that test is good news, or bad news, in this case, but the fact that you're not getting any better, is certainly a bummer. It's doubtful that the encapsulated camera will find anything, but there's always a chance that it might, and I suppose it shouldn't hurt anything.
I agree - it may be time to try the Entocort.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Yeah, I tried the Entocort back in Jan. and didn't have results. Of course I wasn't on this ridiculous diet either. Maybe it would work now! I am really getting tired of this. It would seem so simple to have the bacterial overgrowth, take a few pills and it would go away. I talked to a man today that had the fructose test when I did. He was also positive. He then had the bacterial test and was positive and took the expensive antibiotic. He said it didn't help him. The only thing that helps is for him to avoid fructose. Bummer - cause he grows grapes for wine for a living! I really love fruit too! And I feel that this diet is so unhealthy! No fruit and very few vegetables. Ok! I feel better. Thanks for letting me vent!

Can you post the lab results for your Bacterial Overgrowth test? Please post both the hydrogen and methane. Also did they do the test in house or did they send it off to a lab to analyze?
Also, do you know what antibiotic did the man took and how much?
Oh and how was that book I recommended? Did you get a chance to read it yet?
Thanks,
Mike

Mike,
The results were 7 at 15 minutes, 9 at 30, 8 at 45 and 7 at one hour, then they waited one hour and it was 7 again. It had to go to 20 to be positive. It was only a H2 test no methane.
The man is Hungarian and hard to talk to. He can barely pronounce fructose so I didn't push him on what antibiotic he took. He did say that it cost several hundred dollars and his insurance wouldn't cover it so he paid. He took it for 10 days.
Sorry I haven't read the book yet. I need to. We have been gone a lot. Not a good thing when you are trying to heal but life goes on. My husband likes to go a lot. Thanks for your concern.

Why in the world don't they test for methane as well. I wouldn't consider the test a valid test of SIBO without it. That and the testing I did went out to 3 hours. Though I suppose my question would be how did you feel during and after the test? Notice any adverse effects? Do you know what "sugar" they used? Was it Lactulose? For those who may be confused Lactose does not equal Lactulose.
Not your fault for sure, but it's too bad there isn't a standard protocol here yet as there is in other lab tests.

Just so that my post didn't sound so negative. I'm glad to hear you don't have SIBO.
I'm starting to think it's coming back for me, last two days have been back to the same problems I had before I got treated. Long, small stool, and having to go again after having just gone. :( Seems that the symptom was treated and not the cause.

Mike,
I am so sorry that it is coming back.
I swallowed Lactulose. Very sweet. I just knew I was going to be sick from it but I wasn't. It is used as a laxative so guess what it did to me. I thought methane was a constipation issue and maybe that's why they didn't test me for it.
I haven't heard back from my doctor's office even though I have called and left a message. I suppose they don't know what to do with me, except steroids.
