Good News!
I have had a great summer and almost feel guilty to say how well I feel. Hope some good news will be an inspiration to everyone in recovery.
Went to the dentist today for my semiannual cleaning and came out with a glowing report and much praise. Some niggling little cavities along the gum line have not reoccurred in several years .
Just had a physical and all the tests came back in the superior range. My doctor said it was rare if ever to see the cholesterol levels in such a good range.
Did a meditation retreat this summer. One of the nicest things I could possibly do for myself. Do be good to yourselves, their is only one of you. Thank you Polly for the recommendation.
I have a ton of work from now until Christmas so wish you all the best in this fall season.
To your continued recovery,
Matthew

Hi Matthew,
You're right, that kind of good news is always good to see. Glad you've had such a great summer, and such a good report.
I hope all that work goes smoothly.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Glad to hear everything is going so well and the and the medical measurements show it!! I know you didn't need them to know for yourself but, who knows, perhaps your medical people will remember your lifestyle when they run into problems similar to ones you had. I know, I'm a dreamer. HaHa

Isn’t it amazing how good news produces good news. Just by accident I came upon four twelve inch wide, ten foot long planks of eight quarter white ash that I have been searching for all summer for a table that I plan to deliver before christmas. Everyone (who ever that is ) said I would never find wood like that. Accomplishing the impossible makes feeling good even better.
On the way home I realized how just a small shift in perception can make such a difference in health, mentally and physically . I have really embraced the so simple concepts that Polly wrote about early in the year on how to calm the immune system. WOW have they made a difference.
1. proper breathing
The immune system "tunes in" to changes in breathing, is sensitive to changes in oxygen level. Proper deep breathing should result in the abdomen rising (put your hand on your abdomen to check this) and the exhalation should be twice as long as the inhalation. Many people, especially if stressed, breathe rapidly and shallowly (using the chest only), which activates the immune system.
2. diet
It is best to eat several smaller meals - "graze". The immune system majority revs up at every meal - white cells rush to the gut in huge numbers. (In olden days, food/water were the major carriers of bacteria into the body, so the immune cells need to stand guard in that situation). The larger the meal, the greater the immune response - thus the reasoning behind grazing.
Fiber (30 grams/day). The doc said that fiber feeds the good bacteria in the gut. Interesting......does anyone know more about this?
And of course, as many fruits/veggies and fish as possible.
3. vitamin "L"
This stands for love! Apparently it is very important for quieting the immune system. And it doesn't have to be a "person" you love - it can be your job, your pet, your hobby. Just so there is something you can love every day.
4. adequate sleep
The doc mentioned that we must have absolute darkness to sleep. The pineal gland (which regulates sleep), will not begin putting out melatonin if there is even the slightest bit of light in the room. Wear a mask if you have light you cannot control, like streetlights.
5. exercise
The ideal is now thought to be an hour a day. The latest thinking is that the very best overall exercise is dancing!
6. vitamins
The doc recommends a multivitamin a day. He talked about the importance of 2 specific vitamins if one wishes to supplement (D and B6). He said the vitamin should be taken one hour before the largest meal for best absorption. He himself supplements with 1200 IU of vitamin D, which he determined after getting a blood level.
7. omega 3s
Thanks for always hearing me out even when .....
To your continued recovery
