Missed Everyone So Much!

Post by MaggieRedwings »

Morning All!

So happy to be back home and able to access the board. First things first!

HAPPY, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to anyone I missed while away.

Kate - Good luck in the job market and your ex-boss is just a louse.

Barbara - Sorry to hear about Kait but glad she is back home and also sorry to hear that you are being plagued with some many medical issues. I now really appreciate what Vertigo is and can sympathize with you. It is definitely not the meds with me and will be having it checked out. Was quite bad on vacation and some pictures really tell the story - more like strobe shots while I was whirling about.

Mars - Congratulations on the move and hope you are getting settled in but not overdoing it.

Tex - Missed you and thanks for the Mars article - great people they are.

Everyone Else - No insult meant by not sending personal messages just am overwhelmed here at work and just about have it cleaned up so have not read all posted messages. A lot happens on this board in a month.

Vacation - It was wonderful but not something that we will do again very soon. Kids up at 5 AM with toon time on TV - we never even turn on a TV during vacation. Go, Go, Go all day and then the Brits have tea (dinner) around 7 PM so the kids were worn out by then and quite testy. For me, quite embarassing at a nice restaurant. The weather was cool but only 2 days of rain and the area was gorgeous. Frank was very impressed and so was the rest of the family. Did many things and got a DAY of birding but birded constantly from the car and walks, etc. Ended up with 127 species for Maine and 6 Lifers. Binoculars never left my side. Went to Moosehorn NWR and Petit Manan NWR and they were very beautiful and hit for Warblers in the teens.

Glad to be back home and already planning 2008. Short ride for us - we are going to do Delaware since it is our favorite birding state and will be our 15th anniversary and no one will be visiting.

The entocort was the thing that made long days doable. Vertigo hit hard and have noticed that whenever I get challenged by it my left ankle swells up about double it's size. Anyone have any idea why other than possibly circulation? Very strange but then again, most of my medical problems seem to be.

Missed everyone and so glad to be home and back with everyone.

Love, Maggie

Maggs-----Glad U had some birding time added to your hectic vacation--and great to have U *home*

Its kinda tough to relax when vacation inclued the *whole* bunch-- -
but am sure was great seeing the grandkids--

My vertigo was due to one of them little *filters* in the ear being outta shape??? If it *stood up and is filtering right* I have no idea-- accoringly --to the ENT---it could happen @ anytime???

All I know is---I do not *bend* over --cant wash hair over in the sink--and a few other bits----

I am laughing---cus I describe myelf as Wrong Way Corrigan---the meds. that should do the trick--for me---always work the *wrong-way*

HellOOOOOO Frank~~~~~

Hi Maggie,

We missed you too, and it's good to see you back again. It sounds like you did pretty well with the birding, even with all the "distractions".

Concerning the vertigo and ankle swelling, there could be many causes, but as much as I hate to point this out, I feel obligated to do so: In clinical trials with Entocort, at the 9 mg rate, seven percent of test subjects experienced dizziness, (a term which many people use to describe not only lightheadedness, and unsteadiness, but also vertigo), and seven percent experienced ankle swelling. Long term studies at 6 mg, and 3 mg rates, showed that only two percent of subjects experienced ankle swelling, and the incidence of dizziness, (if present), was not mentioned in the long term study report.

I'm not suggesting that this is the problem in your case, but it's certainly a possibly. Maybe your doctor can shed some light on it. If he/she thinks that it could be the cause, then possibly a rate reduction to a maintenance level of treatment could eliminate the symptoms, after your gut has had sufficient time to heal.

OMG!!!!!

After reading Tex's post --it refreshed my memory of going thru a bout of
slurring speech + being OFF BALANCE-when my GI started me with ENTORCORT (when it was back on the markeT)--
After 2 days of feeling this wacked out I called GI and he said !!!STOP NOW!! He said U are having a NEUROLOGICAL ISSUE!!!

MY !!GP!!! (when I told him) he said no way---should I have been started on the usual 3 pills of Entocort---U start a person with 1 pill a day??? seeing how the person re-acts to the dosage???

Maggs, and as we said----*we all re-act differently to meds* so who knows----
I know I am *one* of the beings that has troubles with meds. and it has been trial and error till I was able to get the right one that LIKED my body---

Feel better-----

Hi Again,

Tex - I think you hit the nail on the head and have backed my dosage during vacation to 6 mg. and it is still working for me and the "vertigo" has lessened somewhat but is still there. When it hits it really hits but the good thing is that is is lessening but still concerned. Knew it was a side effect and maybe coupled with the heart med Toprol - also causes dizziness - and losing 10 pounds, it is just too much. Will be seeing gastro on Thursday next week so will discuss.

Great to be back and Love, Maggie

Wow, six lifers!!!! Were they pelagic species?

Sorry about the dizziness/swelling issues. It is so great that you could have so much time with the family though, without the big D!

We're off to Florida tomorrow. Maybe there will be a lifer for me?
