Ratz!

Post by JJ »

Hi....I am feeling much better after my surgery until yesterday! I felt irritation in my bladder and it got worse as the day went on...I felt like I had to pee all the time, but really didn't. Then, in the early evening I was having blood in my urine... I called the # my doc gave me and talked to a nurse. She called my urologist. I need to go in for a urine test...I am still taking Levaquin....could I have an infection? Guess the tests will let me know...I feel better this morning and can't detect blood, and the burning urination is gone...???????

Well...I better get ready to go....TTFN>>>>JJ

Jill,

That sure sounds like the symptoms of a UTI, but Levaquin is frequently used to treat urinary infections, including those resistant to other antibiotics, so it seems strange that a UTI would be developing at this point.

I can't help but wonder if the stent might be causing irritation and/or inflammation. I believe you mentioned that they plan to remove it later, which implies that it may be made of stainless steel, rather than biodegradable polymers. Urethral stents made of stainless steel are known to sometimes cause inflammation. That almost never happens with urethral stents made of biodegradable polmers.

I hope that the problem is gone, now, regardless of what caused it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi all....went to the doc....I have red, white and I think the nurse said protein in my urine. I have a small amount of bacteria, but not enough for a big infection. They told me to take Pyridine to calm the spasms in my bladder...I swear I can feel that stent poking my bladder....this is not fun! Thank goodness I don't have a job now so I can heal. I almost had a heart attack when I got a bill from the hospital for $15,000. That was from my first surgery and I still haven't received a bill from the doc...heaven help me when the big bill comes for the latest surgery. I called because there is no way that bill refected the 80% that should have been paid by insurance. Indeed, that was the case...I can toss the bill...whew...I asked about payment plans when the time comes...I have never had an illness of this magnitude...I have a lot to learn. Thanks for your well wishes...JJ
