ENDO fill ins---grrr--
Well with all the checking THYROID--either I am blind or else I dont know how to read??? Cause this I dont remember reading--
All is going well---#'s are great----this I was told---
1. In a woman my AGE there are issues to be concerned about--(being on meds) which is *heart* fibs. and my BONES---which I swear I never read--appears YOUNGER AGES can tolerate THYROID meds better?????
2. so----in time----I might be TAKEN off the meds--cus sometimes peoples thyroid adjust and meds not needed????? HUH??
3. the minimized fatigue is natural----
4. my getting up during the night to *P* is normal also but when one *EATS* after departing the bathroom----and doesnt remember that kinda made her *eyes* pop!!
5. I find the peanut butter jar on the counter and a jar of jelly--- ---
6. She said !! I hope U dont walk out the door!! and asked if I am SLEEP WALKING---I said NO---I go to *P* and then I guess I take the wrong turn and end up in the kitchen and eat!!!
I go for blood in a few weeks and then in Feb 08!!!! I see her again--
That was enuf for me to hear----
Checked my NODES but I felt no pain nor any gagging!!! and my heart!
And thats the tale of the Endo
Then to the *cracking good doctor*
If this is feeling better than I am crazy!!!! He figures one more week then Im free----
THE BEST NEWS---my blood pressure was 120/60!!!!
Such a fun way to spend a day--could be worse!!!!
luve Barbara
PS. anyone hear of being able to STOP taking THYROID meds??

Hi Barb,
I have hypothyroidism, and just recently had my meds increased.
I haven't had any side effects, but my doc did say once you start taking thyroid meds, your thyroid won't work on its own without them.
I don't know if thats true, but I'm not going to try it.
It really irritates me, when a doc says, "Well at your age." I just ignore them then. Wait until they get to that age, and then they can see its not really different at That age."
I hope they get this figured out for you soon!!!
How is Kait? I sure hope things are better for her!!!

Hi Kathy------thats what I thought--once U are on meds,for thyroid, thats forever????
Evidently not so??? according to my Endo---
I do have trust in her handeling of me BUT I still am going to speak with my GP.---this guy is A-One~~~ and he is very honest--
Well thanks for asking about Kait----
U know she had a hernia---mesh put in and then the incision opened and then back into hospital for a BETTER stitching---
It is healing very nicely now----
She has enrolled in Community College--and she gives it her all--
Tell ya---this grandaughter of mine is unbelievable--
I thing she has her gramps POSITVENESS attitude--
At times she *falted* but picks herself right up---and keeps that smile--
As Kait said to Lynn---*mom---gotta make the best of it all now*
She has made a guy-friend thru all the meetings these families have had so I am happy for that---
And her sister Kristyn, who drives now , takes Kait all over ---
Kait will never be allowed to drive due to the seizures that still occur but Kait will find her way in this world!!!
Great chatting with U---
Hope U have a good weekend----

Hi Barb,
I'm so happy Kait is doing better and being able to go places and be a teen-ager!!!! I can't imagine how hard it has been on all of you!!!!
I would imagine that Tex will have something to say about the fact of going off the meds once you have been taking them.
I honestly was very surprised, when the doc told me that, that once you start taking the meds for thyroid, your thyroid stops working on its own.
That was in 1994, I dought that it has changed. Maybe Polly has another thought. I hope you don't take this one dr's opinion alone. I would at least get another. They always bring their own personality and bias into their diagnosis. I would never take one drs opinion about going off of a thyroid med or anything else.
I surely hope everything else is going good for you Barb. You are someone I would love to know in person!!!!
Love, Kathyp

Hi Barb,
How is your daughter Deb doing? She had a scan for uteran cancer, or am I wrong? I had abnormal cells with a pap test years ago, and ended up having my uterus removed. Just hoping she is alright.
Also, how is Doug, without you coming to AZ? Tough decision!!!
Kids can really be a lifeline, but you always worry about disappointing them. I guess that is my feeling about my own kids. Like I have been a dissapointment in a lot of ways. Please believe me, I am speaking of my own issues with this.

Hi Kathy,
Actually, since hyperthyroidism is the opposite of hypothyroidism, it is treated completely differently. It's not possible to take a supplement to resolve the problem, when the production of thyroid hormone is already excessive. Barbara is taking an antithyroid medication.
http://health.ivillage.com/thyroid/thyh ... lh,00.html
Some hyperthyroid patients, however, choose to resolve the problem by permanently reducing the physical size of the thyroid, or it's functional capability, in order to reduce the thyroid hormone production. This is usually done either by surgery, or by treatment with radioactive iodine. Roughly half of those patients eventually end up with hypothyroidism, though, and then they have to take thyroid hormone supplements, the same as you are doing, (I'm taking them also), and that has to be done for the rest of our lives, of course.
Actually, there are cases even with hypothyroidism, where only a temporary treatment is necessary. Certain meds can cause hypothyroidism, and a thyroid hormone supplement may be needed while taking those meds, and there is such a thing as postpartum hypothyroidism, which is temporary. For the rest of us though, hypothyroidism requires continuous and life-long treatment.
Love,
Tex

As you can see, that's usually a temporary treatment, though it may have to be repeated if/when a relapse occurs. That quote comes from this site:Antithyroid medications. Medications that either slow the production of hormones in the thyroid gland or block the effect of excess hormones in the blood. They are usually taken for about a year. However, relapse is relatively common after use of the medications has stopped.

WOW Tex,
I didn't know that, I guess I should have read up on it before I said anything. Oh Well, Barb will see your message. I surely hope she doesn't have to have it reduced, I think I read that she said she wouldn't do that. There are too many things that can go wrong with our bodies, arent there??
I sure appreciate that you are up on all these things. I was just thinking that a thyroin med is a thyroid med.
Love, Kathyp
