Well, I didn't look at the photos of my brother. The guard had a few pages of pictures he had taken. My husband looked at them and said it was difficult for him to see and didn't want me to look at them. He brought them home, put them through the shredder and they are gone for good.

The site where my brother was found was beautiful. It had breathtaking views of the forest and mountains. What I noticed mostly was how peaceful and serene it was. There was a creek 50 yards away, you could hear the flow of the water. He must have so enjoyed being there.

I noticed from the photos my husband took while I was spreading his ashes, the sun came out and was shining on me through the trees. I hadn't noticed it at the time. It was beautiful. We also made a cross with his name & year of birth through this year, his death. We placed it near a tree with ferns. It really looked wonderful and was a perfect memorial for his site.

As we left a butterfly followed us for over a mile as we drove away. It fluttered on the side & in front of the car window, staying quite close. It was the only butterfly around........amazing.

This was one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. It has provided me and my family with some closure. I am surprised at how much it helped. I can let him go.......just knowing that he died in a beautiful place, doing what he loved is very comforting.

I appreciate all of you letting me know it wasn't a good idea to look at the photos. I took your advice. I am grateful for all of you, my friends.

Much Love

Lori

It sounds like you made some good decisions and will have some peace now. The final chapter is added to your memories of your brother. The sunshine, the butterfly, those have to be symbolic! Also sounds like you have a very supportive hubby. I'm glad it went like it did.
