Hi Barb!
I'm not taking thyroid meds but the symptoms you describe are general, normal allergic reaction areas of itching when allergic. I would call your doc if they continue the rest of the day.
Hope I'm wrong!

Mars

Mrs. Columbo,
The stuff you're taking is an antithyroid medication, and you guessed right - the meds can cause itching, such as you describe:

The quote above is from this site:Side effects of antithyroid medications include:
* Rash and itching.
* Joint aches.
* Liver problems (hepatitis). Signs of liver problems are yellow eyes or skin, dark urine, severe tiredness, or pain in your belly.
* Low white blood cell count, which can make it hard for your body to fight infection. If you have a low white blood cell count, you may become sick easily and experience symptoms such as fever, chills, and a sore throat.
Call your doctor right away if you have any signs of side effects. Side effects can be serious, but they usually go away after you stop taking the medication.

I have itching too. Mostly on my hands.....my palms itch like crazy but no money ever comes (my superstitious Grandma always said if your palm itches then money is on the way.) I never considered that it would be my thyroid meds. But there it is one of the symptoms.
I have terrible joint pain & at first I was constantly getting sick. I caught everything that was going around. I have really worked on getting my immune system strong. So far so good.
Take care of yourself.

Lori,
Thyroid hormone supplements shouldn't cause itching. Only the antithyroid meds have that side effect.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I would ask my doc about it. The meds you are taking are supposed to feel better, aren´t they?
Maybe not the right dosis...
Just ask him/her.
