Getting this thryoid straightened out is one big pain---
I know I am an *impatient* patient but I am as tired--as before---so when does this issue get to *slow down* and so forth?? I know my blood work-ups have been good---
And I read that sometimes correcting a HYPER can go HYPO?? And I should complain--just found out our friends hubby has bone marrow cancer~~ and the nicest person U would luve to meet--he is going thru all kinds of tests and seeing specialists in NYC---will be seeing them next week-
Crummy weather again----and that doesnt add to ones *mood* well WHATEVER~~~
Have a good day---
luve Barbara

Morning Barbara,
Yep, treating hyperthyroidism is a heck of a lot tougher than treating hypothyroidism. As you know, I have the "hypo" version, and I've been taking a thyroid hormone supplement for about seven months now. I noticed some improvement in energy and general attitude within a couple of weeks after starting treatment, but then I seemed to be slipping back again, so, (with my doc's approval), I upped the dosage rate about three or four months ago. It took a couple of months, but about a month ago, I began to notice that I have much more energy now, and my ambition is coming back, (IOW, I feel like doing things, again), so maybe it's just starting to work right.
My doc mentioned right off the bat that changing the thyroid hormone level in the body will not produce satisfactory results overnight - it takes a long time to get the levels properly adjusted, and everything working optimally, because it takes the body a while to adjust to any thyroid hormone level changes. If the thyroid hormone level is too low, it takes a while for the body to adjust, as the supply is increased. On the other hand, if you have too much thyroid hormone, the body has to use up the oversupply that it already has on hand, before it can begin to adjust to a lower level of supply. I would think that probably takes longer to accomplish than just taking a pill each day, to raise the level, the way that most of us do, with hypothyroidism.
Yep, I count my blessings every day, because there are many people around us who have far worse problems, such as your friend. A couple of weeks ago, I found out that a friend of mine, (I photographed her wedding, many years ago), had just had surgery to remove a 10 pound tumor, (how could the doctors overlook a 10 pound tumor - she had just had a checkup, and they found nothing, just a few months ago). It apparently started on one of her ovaries, and had already spread to her colon, and other areas. Needless to say, her prognosis is not good, but so far, she's holding her own.
Luve,
Galahad

Barbara & Tex,
I'm really sorry to hear about your friends. Our friend, Don, is not doing well. He is having home Hospice care now. I think he has finally faced the fact that he is not going to be able to return to chemo treatment.
It is very sad and, Tex, I agree..........how did they miss that!!
Love, Shirley
