What is your mercury exposure?

Post by mle_ii »

Not that I know it's related, just a curiosity. But I was wondering what folks here exposure to mercury is.

So my questions would be:
1) Do you have or have ever had mercury dental amalgams? If so how many? And if you know for how long?

2) Do you have work related exposure to mercury? If so what is/was your job and your exposure to mercury?

3) How much fish/seafood do you eat on a regular basis and what kinds?

4) Any other exposure you know of to mercury or even other heavy metals?

Here's my exposure:
1) Do you have or have ever had mercury dental amalgams? If so how many? And if you know for how long?
Yes, I had 11, but now only 8 after having them replaced with composites. Not sure how long, but I'd guess 30 years now.
2) Do you have work related exposure to mercury? If so what is/was your job and your exposure to mercury?
I worked in a machine shop where I welded and worked with solder. Not sure how much contained mercury but I am sure it did. At least lead and tungsten for sure.
3) How much fish/seafood do you eat on a regular basis and what kinds?
I eat tuna fish and salmon on a regular basis. Sometimes crab, but I usually don't feel well after eating it, and every once in a while I have clams as well.
4) Any other exposure you know of to mercury or even other heavy metals?
Well, I played with mercury as a child. Yikes! I grew up around a farm, I don't know what if any exposure to mercury I had there was, but perhaps there was some there.

Thanks,

1. I had my first filling when I was a teen (I'm 64 now) so I'm sure I had mercury fillings - don't know if any are left or not.

2. Job related - also don't know. I did use solder for a few years. Don't know if it had mercury in it or not.

3. I don't eat a lot of fish. Probably should eat more.

4. Don't know of any.

Every tooth I have (except the front ones) has had a mercury filling. A few have been replaced with composites, but I have most of it.

I have 5 mercury fillings..
Funny thing happened when I was at Whole Foods.
A lady and I were looking at the bulk nuts.
I told her I'd love to get some but was afraid of cross contamination.
She asked me if I have some intolerances.
I told her yes.
She asked me if I've ever did research on mercury fillings.
She was experiencing intolerances and after researching the bad effects of mercury had all the mercury fillings taken out and replaced.
She said within 2 months no more negative reactions to anything..
Hmmmmmmm........

Other than eating alot of fish and seafood my mercury exposure is very similar to Reggies in that almost every tooth in my mouth was filled (but un-filled later later in life) starting very early in my young adulthood with these types of fillings. My mouth was a mess, as well as my body.

For the sake of research (here goes my vanity) one year after my DX with MC I had most of my teeth pulled so for the most part now wear full upper and lower denture. I believe there are a few more here that have gone this route as well ---- I've often wondered about a connection.

Have any of you seen this video? Please view it!

Yep, I've seen the video, definitly an eye opener.

It just amazes me that mercury, one of the most toxic no radioactive substances, is something we put in our mouth. And what things help release mercury from the "bond" of the amalgam?
Acidic foods - ok just drop those.
Hot foods/liquids - um... ok, I can stop that.
Grinding your teeth - mouthguard anyone?
Chewing gum - yikes, but ok no more gum
And drumroll please.
Chewing food - hmmm... ok all intravenous foods from now on.

What a joke. How in the world can the ADA think that amalgams could cause no problems and are completely safe? Insanity.

Is this the environmental cause of a lot of disease, here and elsewhere? Not sure, but sure seems a likely candidate to me.

So, is there anyone here that has been diagnosed with MC/LC/CC that does not have or didn't have amalgam filings? Or even only has like say up to 3 fillings? I wonder what the average number of fillings is. Perhaps most folks have 4 or more fillings and thus we cannot say for sure that mercury is a cause or at least part of it.
