Camera Pill

Post by Pat »

I am finally going to swallow the camera pill on Wednesday. I'm not looking forward to the prep, similar to colonoscopy but not as bad. Hopefully then my dr will prescribe some medication.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

The only problem with the camera pill is that you can't get a diagnosis for microscopic colitis without a biopsy since in most cases nothing will show by sight. The camera can find other problems though.

Yes you need to be prepped for the camera too.. that is why I never agreed to it:)

I've had colonoscopy with biopsies, twice, and have MC. Dr. is not convinced that I don't have Crohns in my small intestine. Have had endoscopy with biopsies as well. I feel sure it will be negative and then he will finally give me some medication for the MC. Am following GF,DF, SF, and fructose free diet. Also nightshade free. The prep is only 1/2 the colonoscopy prep. All I really need to do is quit the Lomotil or immodium and drink clear liquids. MC is laxative enough! I guess the Miralax will make it clear faster. Yuck! Actually, I'm ready to get it over with and get on with some medication. Diet and Lomotil is just not cutting it.

Unless you're passing blood, your doctor is on a wild goose chase, and doesn't seem to understand MC very well. He apparently doesn't realize that MC can affect the small intestine just as profoundly as it can affect the colon. It seems almost irresponsible that he would continue to drag out the testing phase for so long, when he should have offered you a prescription for Entocort long ago, based on your initial diagnosis.

I hope this is the last hoop that you will have to jump through. Best of luck with the test.

The genetic test for crohn's showed there wasn't much chance of me having it.. nor ulcerative colitis. They were blood tests no need for another colonoscopy.

I am surprised that with biopsies showing MC that the doctor is doing yet another colonscopy. Sure hope you get some answers and relief soon!

Reading your other post on the camera pill looks like you got through that okay, whew.

I've have not been able to follow the board on a regular basis for the last year so this is why I ask this. Have you not already taken a round of Entocort that did not help ? I seem to recall that you have taken Entocort before- maybe short term?

I admire your dedication to diet and in the long run it may be your saving grace but some folks need a med to get them on the right track.

Merry Christmas,

Joanna

Joanna,
Yes, I took Entocort for 6 weeks but I was not on a GF, DF, SF, FF diet. Maybe that would make a difference.
