Entocort Question..

Post by ErinD »

Hi all!
As you have read i have been on Entocort now for 10 days. I have been feeling really good for about a week now, however last night i woke up at 11:00pm with the dreaded abdominal pain. My BM's were solid but softer than normal and it lasted until around 4:00am. Today i feel 'ok'. I have not had any D and the abdominal pain is better but i still have that 'hmm, is it going to hit' feeling? Is it normal to kind of fluctuate between good and bad days on Entocort for a bit or is it starting to lose its charm as i have seen it do with others already? I know it is not a wonder pill that will make it all go away, i guess i just need a reality check!
Thanks!
-Erin

Hi Erin,

I'm afraid I can't be of much help either, since I never took Entocort. What time did you eat dinner? Did you have the symptoms of a typical MC reaction - that is, were you bloated, were there a lot of gurgling sounds coming from your "belly"? Where was the pain - lower left quadrant, lower right quadrant, just under the rib cage, or general over the entire area? If the pain was under the rib cage, did it go all the way to your back?

Statistically, approximately 6% of patients who take Entocort, experience abdominal pain, as a side effect.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

They were my usual MC Symptoms, some bloating, abdominal pain (under belly button, and right side), stomach gurgles, nausea and it is usually followed with massive D but it didn't (I'm thinking the Entocort helped with that part of it?) It wasn't as bad as they had been prior to starting the Entocort so i'm trying to remain positive in that it is still working into my system before full effect will take place :???: My GI also told me to give it a good 2-3 weeks to see true results so that is into next week as well. I had a light dinner my usual time, although i had a fried egg sandwich, and for some reason i noticed that the past couple of times i had eggs, they bothered me somewhat. Maybe i should steer clear of them for a bit.
I do feel better today and closer to the better results i have been having on the Entocort....we shall see!

Hi Erin,

I am now on the downside of taking Entocort and am down to 3 mg every 4 days but do know I need to increase to probably 3 mg every 2 days. Things were great but loose stools are now the norm and when I see my GI on the 31st well will discuss this.

I have had great results using Entocort and it has almost made me forget I have the disease. Every now and then I get the old rumbles. However, I have found that eggs just do it to me every time. Every now and then I can get away with scrambled but fried is almost an immediate reaction. They are going on my list of intolerants.

Stick with the Entocort and sure wish it was there way back in the beginning for a lot of us.

Love, Maggie

Erin,

I was just trying to rule out gallbladder disease, as many MCers seem to have the problem. Your description of your symptoms sounds like a classic MC reaction, so I wouldn't worry about it. For most of us, it takes a while for the symptoms to completely go away. The time frame that your GI doc mentioned, will give a much better indication of how the Entocort is actually going to perform for you. It sounds like you're right on track, so, as Maggie mentioned, stick with it, and you will probably be happy with the results.

The discomfort, (and the BMs), may have come from the egg, (assuming that you used GF bread), and it might have even been from the grease used to fry the egg. Most of us have a problem with steatorrhea, (the presence of fat in our stools), until our gut heals, and it doesn't take much fat to cause a noticeable effect. IOW, we have a problem digesting all the fat in our food, until our gut heals.
