Aloe Vera Juice
Hi there! I am very happy to have found you. I have colitis but I am not sure exactly what type. I currently take Asacol when I have a flare and for the most part it tends to help. But, I am looking for more ideas to help keep things under control. As you all know a flare is so life altering. I am wondering if anyone has experience with taking Aloe Vera Juice? I would love to hear from you.

Hi Kitty and welcome to our group.
My sister swears by Aloe Vera Juice but she uses it to control heartburn and gastric reflex. I don't know about controlling the symptoms of MC.

My youngest daughter was Dx'd with Ulcerative Colitis last fall and she has had amazing results with Aloe Vera juice....she didn't need the meds prescribed and has just used the aloe.....so for what it's worth....since all bodies are different it is hard to judge from anecdotal info, so maybe try it for yourself and see.....I have been on it and didn't have the amazing results she did....yet!!!

Greetings Kitty----I have heard people *praise* the Aloe issue --I tried it but had no results---bought a bottle in AZ.----
Matter of fact---we have an Aloe plant ---and I have tried it even on a cut--and so forth---with no results--
I think its terrific when a person can depart from the *meds* route and use something so natural and get results--
Prednizone and Colazal was what got me back to sanity!!!

Hi again, thank you for the fast response. I am going to try the aloe vera juice and see how it goes. I am new to posting. I have been visiting this site and reading posts since I was diagnosed two years ago. I think I have LC but I am not sure. My doctor told me that my biopsies show areas of white blood cells and that there were areas of irritation that were obvious when he was simply looking around in there. He told me I have IBD but never specified. I am very happy that I g0t the guts to post. I was a bit shy I guess. You are all so supportive of each other and I look forward to sharing that with you.
I have not responded as well to the Asacol this time around and he is saying we could go ahead with a round of prednisone. I am going to give it a few more days. I'm not opposed to the Prednisone but I have never taken it before so I am unsure of how I may react.

This is Just My Opinion and may not be worth too much, but I
VERY MUCH wish I had insisted on Entocort before resorting to Prednisone.
It may take longer to work but I think it's the better way to go.
Just my opinion, as I said.

Hi Kitty, and welcome to the board. I'm glad you finally decided to post. We need all the help we can get, and the more posts we have, the more we learn.
I've never tried aloe vera, so I can't help there.
There are several members here who have stopped taking a med, and then decided to take it again, and they found that it took much longer the second time, before it began to work. We are all different in the way we are affected by meds, so it's difficult to say whether that might apply to you or not.
Some members here take a maintenance dose of Asacol, or some other med, (usually one pill per day or so), so that they don't have to worry about having a flare.

P S Regarding Shirley's comments about Prednisone - Prednisone affects the entire body, and sort of takes control of a lot of bodily functions, whereas Entocort primarily affects only the lower third of the small intestine and the colon, (which is exactly where it needs to work). Therefore, Entocort normally has less side effects, and is generally safer to use, especially over the long term.

Hi! I was allergic to Asacol, but Entocort has changed my life! It worked very quickly for me.....I now take 2-3mg caps a day. I was down to one every other day, but I have had a lot of stress in my life, so need 2/ day to be symptom free. Good luck finding what's right for you....glad you found us! Take care.....JJ

I took Prednisone for an allergic reaction to a medication years ago and I didn't like the way it made me feel. I couldn't get a good night's sleep because it made me jumpy. When my GI mentioned using it for this disease, I balked.
I'm presently on Entocort and haven't had any adverse reactions at all. I would recommend it to anyone.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
By the way, Kitty........I don't think it really matters what kind of Microscopic Colitis you have (LC, CC). As I understand it symptoms and treatment are essentially the same.

LOL. You're right, I was tempted to write a long-winded explanation about the differences between the two types, but the bottom line is that you are quite correct - the treatment is exactly the same for either type. Thanks for pointing that out.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I didn't mean that statement in a bad way, Tex. I enjoy all the research and detail that you put into your posts.
