I'm curious, I've never run accross this information in all my research though I wasn't looking for it per se. But what are the type of Lymphocytes found in Microscopic Colitis or Lymphocytic Colitis?

I never see that information mentioned either, even in articles by pathologists who are discussing the examination of biopsies taken from the colon for the determination of a possible IBD. I'm guessing they are primarily cytotoxic suppressor T cells, though, based on the information in this very detailed article about a relatively new type of MC, (cryptal lymphocytic coloproctitis), where the author gets "down and dirty" with the details. This is a very informative article, if you're interested in the microscopic examination of colonic biopsies, related to the diagnoses of microscopic colitis.

Cryptal lymphocytic coloproctitis is a rather unique variation of LC, in which the lymphocytes infiltrate the crypts, (chambers or cavities beneath the surface), rather than the surface, of the epithelium of the colon, and this apparently contributed to, (or caused), the death of the ape, mentioned in the article. I think I've seen articles that mentioned that ape's demise due to MC, somewhere else. It was described as the first case of a fatality due to MC, (or something of that sort), if I recall correctly.

Apparently, that unfortunate result was due to what I would call a poor treatment program:The treatment so far administered to those two patients has been unable to abrogate the intraepithelial lymphocytosis in the cryptal epithelium.
Omeprazol is used to treat ulcers and GERD, loperamid is an anti-diarrheal, and clomethiazol and neuroleptica are anti-psychotic drugs. IOW, they never tried the GF diet, nor did they try any of the corticosteroids. <sigh> Well duh! It's no wonder they were unable to resolve the problem.This patient was treated with vitamin B12, omeprazol, loperamid, clomethiazol, neuroleptica, and antidepressive drugs. She received antibiotics on several occasions. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were not administered.

I was suspecting some form of T Cells, but didn't want to lead anyone into saying that. The reason I think this is that MC is shown to have a TH1 response, thus T Helper Cells are involved.
The reason for my curiosity is that the type of lymphocytes would help to indicate type of thing that the immune system is responding to. Normally lymphocytes are associated with a viral infection, but I see that there are types of lymphocytes involved in other types of reactions as well.

Well, there's also DogtorJ's theory that susceptibility to MC may be due to a virus, you know, (since one of the primary functions of viruses is to alter genes). Somewhere, there is a method to this madness, (or a blueprint of what gets the ball rolling, and what leads to which outcomes, along the way).
