Learning to Relax!!
Belive it or not, I am learning to relax at home. The new house has much less to do and Frank and I are learning to turn it down a notch. Yesterday I actually took an afternoon nap - I got up at 3:30 a.m. so it was not that much of a stretch. We also went shopping early and then sat and had a cigar and glass of wine. Evening we had a late dinner and watched a movie. I am really enjoying my new life in this new home and look forward to relaxing more. Work however, is a different story.

Well, Thank God you can relax at home especially if work is not at all relaxing! It is a challenge to just sit sometimes, isn't it? Sometimes I find myself sitting in front of the tv or lying on the hammock, and it seems I'm compulsed to get up and DO something. Relaxation is really good for us though.

Good for you
I found if I had some handiwork like crocheting or knitting it helps me to sit in one place and get my feet up and not feel guilty because I'm still doing something and I do find handicrafts relaxing (except when I'm just learning them). It's always been hard for me to just sit and do nothing. When I'm stressed and need to do absolutely nothing, I put some really quiet relaxing music on, lay down on the couch with an afghan and a kitty and that really soothes me.
Naps in the afternoon are great, but I have a problem getting to sleep at night when I do that. Been trying not to nap because of that. I didn't have a nap yesterday because I was busy sewing in the afternoon, but still didn't get to sleep until after midnight. I think I'm going to be having a nap this afternoon, though, because our local tomcat was jumping at my bedroom window at 6:00am terrorizing Emily and Emma. He likes to do that between 5 and 7am!!! I put a whole bottle of cheap shampoo on the ledge and when he got sticky, soapy paws he didn't come around for a few days, but the sun dried it up and he was back this morning. Well, back to square one. What a brat.
Anyway, that sure didn't relax me.
Maggie, I'm glad to hear your new home is easier on you and you are able to get some quality relaxation. It really helps to recharge the batteries, doesn't it?

Do something nice for you today
Hi, Maggie. I am surprised that you don't meditate. I find that even 15 minutes of just sitting and letting my mind unravel is the most relaxing thing I can do. It has become an important part of my daily routine. Even with all these people here, I can find a quiet corner to do it in. Out in the garden listening to the water flowing over the rocks in the pond is the best.

Maggie,
I'm glad you are enjoying your new house. I remember that you had mixed feelings about leaving the old one. Good for you learning to relax! I think this disease has taught me some of that.
You're lucky you can take naps. If I do, I'm out of it for a couple of hours afterwards.
Any new birds on your lifetime list?
Love, Jean

Morning All,
The nap thing does ruin my sleep at night so it will not be a constant for me. Sally, I do meditate at home but at work it just seems impossible.
It was the right decision and the right time to make our move.

Maggie, when I was working in the Libe I used to take 10 or 15 minutes off and disappear into the bathroom whether I needed it for the usual "business" or not. Those little breaks sitting on the pot meditating were a real mini-vacation for me. Sort of clearing my cache, so to speak. Hahaha.
