The handi-wipes are pretty close I would think, but the purell type liquids may do a little bit better, that is what we used in the virology lab instead of soap and h2o, killed those deadly little pets I used to play with much better...

Hmmmmmm. If that was the choice for lab work like that, that's a pretty good endorsement. I guess I'll pick some up. It might come in real handy if bird flu should ever get started in this country. If bird flu did happen to become a serious threat, items such as that would probably disappear from the shelves virtually overnight.

Thanks,
Tex

If you have a Sams Club anywhere near, or order from them online, they have their own private label Purell type gel in a gallon jug that you can then refill a little bottle with. The gallon is only about $6/jug last time I bought it. Which is dirt cheap compared to what a bottle of Purell cost. I use it to clean my milk cows udder before milking. That stuff is just great at killing all kinds of creepy crawlies...

PS: It's not a matter of if bird flu comes, it's a matter of when. I keep a pretty close eye on it, since we have laying hens.

That type of soap kills off virus too? I knew it was antibacterial, but I didn't realize it was anti viral as well.

Thanks,

Apparently it's not really a soap, it's a disinfectant. Purell contains 62% ethyl alcohol, as the active ingredient.

Wet Wipes contain 0.3% Benzethonium chloride as the active ingredient. According to Wikipedia:
Benzethonium chloride is a synthetic quaternary ammonium, surfactant, antiseptic, and anti-infective compound used as a topical antimicrobial agent in cosmetics and personal care products like anti-itch ointments and antibacterial moist towelettes and wipes. Benzothonium chloride is also used is the food industry as a disinfectant and preservative. [1]. It has the appearance of an odorless white crystalline hygroscopic powder and has a melting point of 162-164 °C. The compound is moderately soluble in water and is toxic orally because it may cause failure in neuromuscular transmission as a result of pathological disturbance at the myoneural junction.
Both products claim to "Kill 99.99% of germs", and both products require a rubbing action to use. Maybe we're rubbing the dern things to death. LOL.
