Three Strikes and You're Out!

Post by Becky »

Met with my GI today:
Strike 1 - I told him about the possible correlation of autoimmune issues and being a DES daughter
Strike 2 - I told him about Enterolab testing
Strike 3 - I told him about the Paleo Diet
and I was OUT of the office quick. However, I did leave with a free probiotic sample.
Nothing like a bubble bath and a gf brownie to make you feel better at the end of the day. What a journey we are on. I am thankful for the validation I receive from all of you here!

Wow! You've got chutzpah, girl. It's a shame that your GI doc can pitch, but he can't catch. It's surprising how closed minded a lot of GI docs are. I guess they learned all they figure they'll ever need to learn, back when they were in med school. LOL.

Hi Sunny,
For the DES I'd say I got a ... bemused look.
For Enterolab, I got .."not reliable, but see if your insurance will cover it"
For Pale Diet...he agrees about too much processed foods in our diet. I told him I'd rather treat my MC with diet than meds (I've been on Entocort since fall) but that I'd like to have some certainty of what to eliminate. No suggestions.
I didn't even get through the written list of things I wanted to discuss before he headed my to the appointment desk.
He IS a nice guy, I just think he thinks I'm from another planet.

Oh I don't think it is just GI's lol that take that approach, I have had the same shown the door quickly from my GP in the past when I have questioned and made suggestions.

Well having been a medical secretary to a number of consultants I decided that they do seem to have a 'god complex' if it is not what they believe holy it will not valid. When my current problems started I saw a very nice GP from South Africa who told me I had IBS full stop and all the classic signs. As most of us I was told to eat a lot of fibre, oh no need to explain what that did to me.

Anyway I was talking to a really nice Chinese chemist who stated she did not think this was IBS but in fact an IBD, she suggested peppermint oil and probiotics. When I next saw the GP and mentioned this to him he really got very annoyed and informed me he was a doctor and who did this chemist think she was as she clearly did not have the training to suggest these products.

LOL if it is not in medical text, it's not happening

Hi Becky!!!
Yeah!!! Don't you just love it when they think that you don't know anything and everything that you bring to their attention, they sit there and shake their heads.
I took my Entero Lab results with me and mine looked at me and said, "You don't have celiac". So, I responded with, "So what about people that are sensitive to gluten?? No reply from him.
Then it was another 6 month checkup and to get my Entocort refilled.
Always the same procedure, same questions, same answers, but before I left the examining room my GI said, "I have another patient just like you that I'll be seeing today. So, I replied with, "Oh!! Someone that has MC, gluten sensitivity, and a casein intolerance??????" He said, I'll see you in 6 months....

Hi J.j.,
No I'm going to talk to my primary today and see what he thinks. But I think it's probably time to go elsewhere. Thanks for giving me the recommendation of your doc.

Though my GI doc seems to be ahead of the times with regards to IBS/SIBO/Probiotics he seems to be behind in other areas, and won't listen to much of anything I have to say about them... well, he does hear, he just doesn't seem to listen. LOL
