Mouth Sores...

Post by ErinD »

I get a lot of mouth sores but i also get this weird thing in the back of my throat. They are these areas that at first look like little white dots, but they are actually pretty big and deep inside the skin. I usually have 1-3 at a time. They end up falling out and (not to be gross) i have coughed some up in the process and they are actually pea sized and somewhat hard. I get them all the time but never feel ill when i have them.

I know mouth sores and such are symptoms of some IBDs, is it also common wit MC? and has anyone else had these weird throat things?
Diagnosed with MC on 1/8/2008 after 7 months of flare. 2nd colonoscopy and new diagnosis of UC on 3/11/2008.

Hi!!
I haven't dealt with any mouth sores or coughed anything up.
I think someone else on the board has had mouth sores, and hopefully, they'll be along to answer your question.

I've coughed up those things. Never really knew what they were. Haven't had them for a long time, but now I'm wondering if it was Candida.

Hi Erin,

I wish I could give you some more information but I have not dealt with mouth sores. Dealt with a lot of teeth problems and oral thrush. I was on a Crohn's message board reading and someone posted about mouth sores (as you said common in IBD) and I do believe I remember someone messaging back that there is a medication that you can swish in your mouth that helps with the pain/healing of them. I am not sure if they are common with MC or not (still learning more about MC, lol), but if MC has anything to do with the immune system and our mouths carry the highest potential for bacteria, I do think there could be a correlation.

Have you talked to your Doctor about them? It might be beneficial to have your Doc take a look and if see if he/she might be able to prescribe that medication for pain/healing of them.

Hope you are having a good day!

I have the exact same thing - they are VERY irritating aren't they? Also, not to be gross, but when they come up they smell AWFUL!!!

My doctor says that they are calcium build up?????? No further explanation but said not to worry about it. Don't have any further information than that.

Love,

I think you're probably referring to tonsoliths. Here's some information on them:

http://www.ehealthforum.com/health/topic43522.html

By the way, mouth sores are fairly common with MC, during reactions. I used to get them regularly, while reacting, but I haven't had any since I've been in remission.

Hi Erin>>>>>>>I get mouth sores all the time. But if I use Crest mouthwash I seem to keep the amount I get lower. I use the whitening prohealth and the crest prohealth green one. I can go weeks sometimes with out a sore.
Hope it helps you Love Oma

I never associated the mouth sores with MC until I found this site. I had them all the time before I went on Entocort. When I reduced to 3 mg, the mouth sores came back right away. That's what convinced me that I needed to increase the dosage back to 6 mg (along with the advice from the good people here).

I've never had the large round balls that you describe, however.

Mine were always pretty small, around the size of a grain of rice or two put together. And about the consistancy of it cooked, though more yellowish whitish in color. Don't remember what they smelled like though.

Erin, I had been using the mouthwash for about 3 weeks when I realized I wasn't getting sores like I used too. I may still get one now and then but for the most part. They stay away as long as I use it. Good Luck. Love Oma

mouth sores

Post by Linda in BC »

I am a newbie here and did a search on mouth sores, found this post and thought I would reply and share what I have found works. I have been getting a lot of mouth sores lately. First a crack in the corner of my mouth that went away when I started taking iron (I read somewhere that such cracks were indicative of an iron deficiency) but if I slack off at all it returns. Then last week I got a large (size of a nickel), red, smooth, sore spot on the roof of my mouth. This has gone away with increased b vitamin complex. I have been reacting like crazy lately ( lots of D.) so am beginning to think my poor old body is just not getting any nutrition out of what I am eating. I fear the only thing that is keeping me even half-ways heathy is the fairly consistent regime of vitamin supplements I take!
