How very sad that it took me all this time to UNDERSTAND the pictire I have of my dad --in uniform-with a group of men--standing @ attention--
And how sad that my mom could never Xplain to me that Dec.7th wasnt his call to fight for our country--
Under Roosevelt there was a Federal progran called Civilian Conserative Corps which men of poor familes---jobless etc. volunteered for to work there *buns* off putting up telephone lines--power lines--tree planting--fire roads and a zillion other things--
They lived in barracks --worked long hours--got paid and got some time off--
I dont know which state he worked in----but the picture I have --he surely looks so handsome and dedicated to his job---protecting our country in this manner--and on back of this picture my mom had scribbled words here and there but one phrase always made me cry--it was *god give me strength*
Knowing my mom---she no doubt was either not-totally informed as to their duties or else --once again saying--she was to embarrassed to tell me --in later years--about the picture--
No doubt embarrassed cus all my uncles fought in WW2--
How sad that she wouldnt have seen me be PROUD of what my dad did for his country!!!
I feel like I have just been born and am learning about my dad--being from the big city and mom--living in Mass.--who @ the age of 16 had to go to NYC--get a job and send $$$ home to help her mom and dad and all sisters and brothers that needed help---
I feel like a *no-where-person~~~
Speak with my surviving aunt--several times and she cant shed any info concerning my mom and dad--
Well time to call her now --being I have some info--perhaps she can shed a little bit of light---
thanks---whoever read this
Barbara---feeling like the lonesome
PS. spoke to my aunt---and she did understand what my dad did before owning a bakery---which went *kaboom* cause my mom--was giving the *nuns* the fresh baked stuff instead of the day old stuff--- --
and I found out that my mom--worked as a housekeeper for Aunt Rose--my Babci's sister---and that most of the times ,the family that rented us an apartment---would watch me---and I remember Mrs. Taglianetti--cus she was so very very happy when I was with her---BUT there were times when my mom had to leave me with a neighbor cross the street and I gather thats the one who *wacked me* around----
My Aunt Joan filled that part in---
So she and I had some laughs--but she did want to know *why* am I *searching*---I answered *cus I want to place myself and mommy never told me about her life--never a mom and daughter chat!!!
OH---and I found out my mom's birth name was Mary--not Marion~~~
By golly, I might find out about my life in bits and pieces--and hopefully the *best* of the pieces~~~~~~~

1st new thing about my dad
the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness and self-control
Yes, you should be very proud of your Dad and I'm glad you are. Your Mom is a hero (heroine) also because she did what she could for her family. I hope you will continue to find out all the things you want to know.

Hello Barb,
Being new I was a little unclear that you did not know your Mom and Dad, but I am glad that you are finding out information about them. I do not know my father. My mother was very young when she got pregnant and from what I hear my grandfather spoke with him on the phone (knowing him probably scared him half to death) and next thing my Mom knows he left--- before he even knew she was pregnant. My mother will not speak of him, I only know his first name (which is a common name and there are thousands in the US with this same name). I have looked in the mirror before and tried to analyze which parts of me do not look like my mother and what I have acquired from my father. In my early twenties I paid money and tried contacting one of those "find people" places, but nothing came out of it and I do not feel I will ever know anything about my father.
I am glad you are proud of your Dad and Mom, and that is the way it should be. From the sounds of it they were respectable and did what they could. I wish you the best of luck with finding all the information!
