Okay, I'm just an ignorant old country boy, but what's wrong with doing it the old-fashioned way - using sunlight? It couldn't be any more hazardous than spraying some sort of chemical dye on your skin - could it? Plus, it's loaded with vitamin D, (which we all need), and which is probably pretty scarce in those tanning solutions.

If dyeing is the way to go, wouldn't it be a lot easier if someone developed a dye that you could just pour in a bathtub full of water, and jump in and soak until you got the shade you wanted? LOL.

LMAO!!!!! Tex!!!!
Yes, you're right about smearing on the tanners, etc...
The bathtub comment had me cracking up!!!!
I like the sun as much as others, but if everyone knew what chemicals they put in the sunscreens, we'd all be living in bubbles..
I had a bout of skin cancer on the top of my right arm so yes, I do smear on sunscreen before I go out. Being very fair is the pits because during the summer I really have to watch how long I'm in the sun. It's like she's outside, go get her!!!!! I cheat on tanning so I don't look like a ghost!! LOL!!!!!!!!

Dee: Thanks for the suggestion I am going to check them out!

Tex: LMAO-- you are right about the tanners. With me not wanting to use a tanning bed I think it is because of two reasons-- first I did notice since I owned a tanning bed that over time my skin would get very dry (even with gobs of lotion) then when I saw the damage it caused to my mother's friend skin, I was like "ohh ok, maybe this is not the way to go".

That would surely be interesting with the bathtub!-- get all the little places that are so hard to get with tanning and artifical tanners, lol.

P.S. I am so jealous you are in the land of the sunshine!!

Dee,

Hahahahaha. Okay, I see your point. I agree that sunscreen lotions should be illegal for human use in their current formulations, and the skin cancer issue is definitely not to be taken lightly.

Didn't Polly or someone post about some research that showed that skin cancer may not actually be directly related to sun exposure, or am I halucinating? I'm thinking it was about a year ago.

Kel,

I'll see if I can find something to add to the bathwater that provides a suitable tint. LOL.

From what I've researched they say it's not the sun exposure that causes the skin cancer, but their has been evidence that some of the sunscreens, and the chemicals that they put in them that is absorbed thru the skin can cause cancer.

Of course this isn't going to be the latest news headlines because we don't want the manufacturers of the sunscreens or the dermatologists to get hit in the pocketbook, do we?????
Same goes for what we already know about all of the chemicals that are being put in our foods, etc........

Wow really-- no way about the sunscreen! Gosh, where have I been, lol. Thats actually a little scary when you think about it. Then again if I remember correctly asparteme, the artifical sweetner, has been linked to causing damage in the body-- yet look at how many products on the shelves have asparteme in them!

I watched this documentary that was basically talking about geneticly mutating grown food (such as tomatoes, corn, etc). Studies had found that the chemicals used to make these "better fruits and veggies" were actually causing illness in humans. Problem is in the groceries stores it is not demanded to show if the produce we are purchasing have come from these places that use genetic testing-- yet if I remember correctly in another country (Europe maybe??) it is required for them to state if the produce you are purchasing has been genetically enhanced. After watching this I started buying more organics, lol.

HaHaHaHa You cracked me up, Tex, and I like the bathtub idea too!!!

I've never had a tan more than a few times in my life and it wasn't even by any means (natural method) because I can't just "lay" in the sun. I have to be doing something out there and you just don't get the inside of your arms or the backs of your legs tanned while working in flower beds, etc. Ha

HaHa It works on crocheted pieces that you want to "age". I've never done it but have known of people who did.

lol Tex I love that idea and yes what about cold tea baths hahaha. I remember my mother telling me that during the war the young girls would mix gravy browning with cold water and paint it on their legs because they could not get stockings. Well lol unless they had a boyfriend from the USA

Dee- that is hilarious. I'm thinking my husband might like that but I'm wondering what would happen when I go on my 3 mile walk. I wonder how many dogs would follow my home?

The gravy is certainly a new one for me and LOL at Becky and Dee at the dogs following you home and a way to a man's heart with smelling like roast/gravy.

Since I am young I can remember the kids in middle school going through this "fad" with dying their hair using kool-aid. Could never understand the point behind purple-pink-orange hair, but it sure made a colorful school, lol.
