Sad day on the home front..........
Son in law deployed to Afghanistan last night. Trisha is taking it VERY HARD! His deployment is for 18 months. She will be heading home next week but is struggling right now. She is worried about Bryce and another dad not being in the picture for him - he is 7 and not able to understand completely; the baby not knowing his dad when he comes home (he is 2 months old) and her missing him terribly.
This is his second deployment, the first to Iraq. When he left last time he didn't have a family to leave behind. This is very hard on him too.
I'm just sad for everyone!

Mars,
I am so sorry to hear this, I know it must be very difficult on Trisha and it adds to it with worrying about the two children during this time as well. I know it will not make up for it, but will Trisha be able to talk with him through the computer or phone? I have a friend that was in Iraq and we were able to get on the computer and speak through IM/ email at times. It is difficult when they are so far away.
My prayers and thoughts are with them during this time. It is those like him that go and fight for our country with a family at home that really makes me appreciate being an American-- they truly are heros.

That is sad news, Mars.
My Dad was in WW2 - went in when I was a baby. My Mother said she kept showing me his picture and telling me that was my Daddy. When he came home we met him at the train and when I saw him Mom says that I said "There's my Daddy".
I'm sure Trish will try her best to keep the kids enthused about his return. I do believe it helps.
Love, Shirley

Hiya Margie------
my heart goes out to Trisha--including all of U---
and reading daddy's letters to Bryce might be of help to him---and constantly talking about *daddy* to the little babe and maybe having Bryce talk about *daddy* might be of some help--
Pictures and talk- talk my dear Margie can be a touch of magic--
Give Trisha a big and my prayers are with all of U--

Thanks everyone! I just spoke to Trisha. He left tonight - I thought it was last night. She was still crying when I talked to her and she said they all cried something awful. Eddie had a real hard time leaving, especially leaving go of the baby. He is named after his daddy!
Afghanistan is not as internet-capable as Iraq but there are places and times they will be able to talk. I told her tonight that they both need to have webcams so that it will seem like he is just "out of town" instead of so far away.
Bryce reads well and writes just as well. I told Trisha that he should set down once a week and write his dad a letter. Mail is very, very slow to Afghanistan so the letters will be something they can both look forward to.
Thanks again for prayers and hugs and good wishes. It is so, so hard but it makes me proud that he is my son in law and is fighting for my safety and freedom. Still makes me

Morning Mars,
I will echo what everyone else said - talk about him, show pictures and write.
My next door neighbor's son who just re-enlisted a few months ago and is 35, was just deployed to Iran last week.
They are all in my prayers for a safe and happy return.
Love, Maggie
