Hiya Sis,
Well, we didn't get to go on the cruise after all. We were supposed to fly to Ft. Lauderdale last Fri. and pick up the ship on Sat. As it turned out, Scott developed heart problems on Thurs. We went to the hospital and they admitted him for 2 days. He was in heart failure. He is now on about 8 medications and doing very well. I am learning to cook low-salt meals. Can you believe it? With all of my food intolerances, salt was the one thing I didn't have to worry about. Oh well.........as Rosann Rosannadanna said, "it's always something". I guess the timing was a good thing......if he had developed problems after starting on vacation, he would have been treated either on the ship or in Jamaica or Grand Cayman. Here he goes to one of the top 100 cardiac hospitals in the U.S. - it really is superb.
Hope you have a great time. Wish I could see Louie's beard!
Love,
Polly

"Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn't learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn't learn a little, at least we didn't get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn't die; so, let us all be thankful." -- Buddha
Polly,
Wow! Sorry to hear that, but I'm glad to hear that he's doing fine, and I hope that trend continues.
He's a lucky man - not many patients are fortunate enough to have a doctor cooking specialized meals for them, and taking care of them 24x7.

Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Morning Polly,
I was so sorry to hear your news and please know that you are both in my prayers. A terrible thing to have happen but so much better on the homefront than at sea. Love you and please let Scott know that Frank & I send our best wishes for a really fast recovery.
Love, Maggie

Thanks so much for your concern and good wishes! Scott continues to improve, so all looks good.
Barb - I will be in and out most of the day but should be around this evening. Call if you can. Or I could call you? Would love to catch up.

Polly

Polly....just now catching up......so sorry about your canceled trip and Scott's unexpected diagnosis. I have heart failure also....stage 3 and am on a lot of heart drugs ....I know the shock of learning that you have this condition and the concerns that arise. I was being scheduled for open heart surgery to correct a leaky valve to see if that would help and then that was canceled at the last minute and they did a simpler procedure. If he wants to "talk" to me about heart failure, I would love to share what I have learned and put him in touch with a great support group on-line for heart failure patients.

Sunny,
Thank you for your concern and info. Scott has stage 3 failure also. His underlying diagnosis is cardiomyopathy with atrial fibrillation, and he has done beautifully for the past 11 years since diagnosis on just 3 meds - dig., coumadin, and lisinopril. Since the recent hospitalization, he is now on 2 diuretics, a beta blocker, and 2 others. He is hoping that some of them can be decreased/eliminated as his heart grows stronger.
How are YOU doing?
Love,
Polly

Thanx for asking, Polly. I am doing remarkably well. I am many meds but specifically on the wonder drug, Coreg, which has brought my ejection fraction from 24% up to 40% so they are pleased. I also have a Resynchronization Device implanted which signals both sides of my heart to beat stronger. Before it was off by a small, but significant amount so it did not beat in synch but sort of stuttered. I also have cardiomyopathy and tachycardia and irregular heart rate. So each day I celebrate that I am above ground!!! The heart failure site I mentioned is not functioning except to read old posts but Jon is very knowledgeable about HF and has many posts to instruct and encourage. He has so many other health challenges right now that it is not taking new comments, sadly enough. The site is CHFpatients.com if you are interested in perusing the info. Jon is a lot like those of you on our forum who do a lot of research.

Oh, Polly, mi querida amiga
I was reading posts, catching up, when I found yours. I thought you were already on the cruise. I am so sorry, but happy reading that he is doing fine. Please, give our best wishes to him and a big hug for you.
At least it happened before your trip, which I would say is much better than on the boat.
You are on my thoughts, my friends.
Take care
Love,
Tessa
