These Techie Kids! A funny story.
Hi All,
My niece's daughter, Jordan (age 11) is playing lacrosse in her local rec league. She also wanted to play on her school team, but her mom and dad nixed the idea, saying that it would take too much time away from homework if she played on 2 teams. Jordan begged and pleaded but got nowhere.
The other night as they were finishing dinner, Jordan requested some time to make a "presentation". She then proceeded to do a lengthy power point computer presentation that she had created on why she should be allowed to play on two teams. Apparently she had pie charts and graphs, etc. too! (My niece has saved it to show me - what a hoot!).
These kids are too much! LOL!
Love,
Polly
P.S. She still did not convince her parents!

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
If she's willing to go to that much trouble, I can't believe that they still refused to allow her to play. LOL.
Besides, that presentation should have been a pretty convincing demonstration that she's on top of her school work, and understands how to use what she's learned.
Love,
Tex

ROFL!
It must be an 11-year old thing! My son is in a laptop immersion program @ his middle school. He did the *same* thing to persuade us he needed a cell phone!
Needless to say, dad and I were so impressed w/his presentation and logic - we got him one. Maybe we are suckers (?) but there are strings attached - notably, minimum GPA requirements. We also learned in about 2 days to get rid of the text-messaging feature (they are $.15 to send or receive, and in the first 36 hours, there were 33 text-messages!)
But it has come in handy on a few occasions! I figured he wouldn't be interested in the phone until girls started calling - but he and his "technology-oriented" buddies are interested in the features/bells & whistles...Who knew? At least now I have a go-to person when I don't know how to use something on my own phone!

Mary,
I also agree on the text messaging. The wireless service providers love to take advantage of you if you'll let 'em, and they've managed to turn text messaging into a real windfall.
