Post by barbaranoela »

well Lynn had to rush Kait to the hospital --appears her shunt is not functioning and her head was like ready to Xplode--

And this is unreal----the group that sells the equipment--shunt--etc are also checking their equipment cus it might be possible that Kait has a malfunction shunt!!!!!!!!

Hi Barbara,

That's a heck of a note. You know what, though? I think we've both suspected all along that the shunt/s that she has been using are unreliable pieces of junk. I think that problem is more common in medicine than most people realize.

When you get a reading from a test, or whatever, the results are usually carried out to umpteen "significant" digits, as if to suggest that the device is super accurate. I have a hunch that if you were to accurately calibrate most of that equipment, you would find that none of it is right on the money, and, in fact, a lot of it is off by a wide margin. I've used a lot of similar instruments in engineering research projects, and I can assure you that the accuracy of most instrumentation is only as good as the skill and dedication of it's operator. If they're not properly calibrated, and checked regularly, their readings may be no better than guesswork.

Also, (to support Mr. L.'s position), one thing you can count on is the fact that virtually all machines break down sometimes, and medical equipment is certainly not immune to that risk, also.

I hope they get this straightened out, and find something that works right for Kait.

Morning Barbara,

Not Again?! When will she get some peace and happiness??

There is really not a thing you can do right now but I do understand you being upset. Try to calm down and be supportive and seethe below the surface. Easy for to to say.

I know how worried and frustrated you are but I really do believe that you and Lou should take your trip and enjoy it. You definitely need it and the 2 of you need time together without family and phones.

Love you and praying for Kait, Maggie

Barbara,
Sometime it seems like there is nothing that is going to work for dear Kait on the long term. I hate it that she is going through so much pain again.

I hope they can get the shunt problem sorted out quickly and I also hope that it's nothing more than that.

:grouphug: to all of you........

Oh Sis,

This sucks big time. I hope it gets straightened out immediately.

I don't think the problem is the shunt - it's the people monitoring the shunt. When I was in medical training we were taught to always base our decisions upon the patient's clinical findings - not upon what the machines or lab tests were indicating. There are too many possibilities for error if you don't use your BRAIN first. Maybe nowadays, with all of the increasing reliance upon technology, this has been forgotten. Machines of any kind should never replace THINKING.

Hang in there and B-R-E-A-T-H-E.

Lending my shoulders.........................

I sure hope they get this thing straightened out - I would think they should be monitoring the progress or in this case, lack of progress of the machine. As Polly Wolly says, machines will never take the place of a mind. I've always said that the machines are only as smart as the operator!!!

Many hugs and prayers coming your way! Relax before you are the next one rushed to the hospital!!!!

Love,
Mars
