mexican Meds
I was thinking that since i live only about 4 hours from the border would it be worth it to stock up on some Meds like Entocort? I plan to quit smoking in a few months and I would rather not flare hard- So I was thinking about getting a 3 month supply and then quit smoking and about 2 weeks into quitting start taking the Entocort to head off some kind of flare. Of course i will talk to my GI about this and he will prob shoot it down but I just wanted to see your opinions.
Does anyone get Meds from Mexico? If so how can you tell if they are Gluten free? I know most the drugs in Mexico are generic and probably not made by the same companies as we get here in the US or Canada.

Dr Fine test shows positive for gluten and casien but negative for soy, eggs, and yeast

ANDREW------are U CRAZY?????? DO NOT cross the border to get your meds!!!!!!!! and U will talk to your Doc, about what U want to do!!!!
I have a friend who did that (who has a very serious heart condition--almost died) and STUPIDLY went and got what she needed ---cus it was CHEAPER and it was also MIXED with stuff that got her--very sick!!!
Do U know how they go about this????HUH????
First if U dont have a prescription from a doc.--there is supposedly a[person there called a DOCTOR and he writes out what U TELL him U are taking and then they make it up for U/or take something from the shelf saying tis the same!!!!!!
If U have a prescription from your DOC---they go in the back and fill it---or(again) take it off the shelf???? and U dont know what the hell U are taking!!!
U worried about GLUTEN~~~~ like sure---*gluten free *senor*---UFF
I am sorry Andrew----to be so and --but DONT do it!!!
I know MEDS are $$$$$$ but your LIFE is more special!!!!!
And if U do this---no more BIRTHDAY CARDS for U--

No I had no researched this method of obtaining meds. My neighbors and some co workers do it all the time- but I guess if you cant be sure what you are getting then I think that would defeat the purpose. I know they usually get some antobiotics and such and pain meds...
Going to Mexico and getting meds came as a surpirse to me when i found out a few weeks ago but I wanted to bounce it off some other people and it looked like when it bounced off of Barb I got colbbered with the ball!
Did your friend make it out okay Barb?

Really Barb I dont care if people BLAST my ideas. It is kinda why I bounce things off of people first because sometimes I dont think of the obvious. I can find a penny missing in millions of dollars but sometimes things just dont hit me like they hit other people.
NO REASON TO APPOLOGIZE! You are entitled to your opinion and obviously it hit close to home. I would rather have people care too much about me than have no one care at all!!
And I want my birthday card so I wont go to Mexico for the meds!!!!!

HI Andrew,
I agree with Barbara but honestly, her post back to you had me rolling on the floor. To say she was emphatic is an understatement. I was reacting the same as she without typing - especially No Senor - no gluten. LOL
Thanks Barbara for being the one to say it. I am usually too chicken crap to post some things I think.
Love, Maggie

Hi there Andrew....I don't know you as I am still a newbie, but have to say that with Barbara as a friend, you always know where you stand!!!!! And to add my 2cents worth....my brother and sis-in-law are ex-pats living in La Paz for past 15 years and we have heard some wild tales about meds and going to La Pharmacia and telling them what you want and getting it. My bro-in-law is a former banker and "$$$ is the bottom line "kind of guy and has been lucky so far but his health is not good and we have no idea what he is taking nor does he!! He is showing very early signs of dementia and who knows what else. So my thinking is....stick with Barbara's unbiased advice and keep those birthday cards coming!!!

Barbara,
Wow! What a post! That one was a real prizewinner. I have tears in my eyes, and I can't stop laughing. You're the greatest! Damn! I would give anything to be able to write half as good as you. No one can get the message across the way you can.
Please don't ever change.
Luve,
Galahad
P S FWIW, I agree with you. I have a hunch that down there, you will never hear the words, "Perdóneme, pero no tenemos aquél". (Sorry, but we don't have that one.) LOL.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Well, *I* wouldn't get meds from Mexico - but I spent too many nights in college drinking in Tijuana - a friend of mine got hepatitis from the *food* there, so I'd be wary...
Perhaps if cost is an issue, getting meds from a Canadian source would be a possibility? OK, this is definitely TMI, but apparently my FIL gets his Viagra from there, as it is less expensive. (After Mike told me that, I couldn't look my in-laws in the face without )
Now that I've given you all that *lovely* visual, have a wonderful weekend!

Oh, Barbara - your post was so funny that I showed it to my husband. You are one of a kind.
This reminds me of when I got a huge hemorrhoid while we were vacationing in Brazil. You can go into any drugstore there and get medicine without a prescription. Our driver was standing nearby and I was trying to keep my problem quiet. He kept straining to hear what I was telling the pharmacist.
None of us knew the word for hemorrhoid in Portuguese, so I tried describing my problem to the pharmacist. I finally pointed to my and my daughter (who was translating) said "blister" in Portuguese.
Ah, said the pharmacist , and pulled out a box of their brand of Preparation H. We still laugh about it.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
