Update on Imuran
My doctor's assistant called today and said that my recent test to check if the Imuran (Azathioprine) was at a therapeutic dose for me said that it was not. So they are upping my dose from 50mg to 100 mg. From what I have read they try to get you to 1mg per lb of body weight. Since I am only at 102.5 lbs I guess 100mg will be about there. (I'd like to gain a few more lbs) Hopefully it will help with the D. I am better on 50mg and 9mg of Entocort (and 2 Lomotil) but nowhere near normal. I think when I am better he will wean me off the Entocort. It apparently isn't doing the job for me.

Pat,
I don't recall how long you've been using the Entocort, but I have to agree, it seems like a long enough time for it to work, if it were going to.
Good luck with the 100 mg dosage rate of Imuran.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
sorry to hear you aren't finding much relief with the Entocort/Imuran. I hope the increase in the dose will help. I agree the two weeks of Entocort is still short to decide yet, my doc said it takes a good 3-4 weeks to see the true difference so maybe between the two you will be better soon!
Diagnosed with MC on 1/8/2008 after 7 months of flare. 2nd colonoscopy and new diagnosis of UC on 3/11/2008.
Pat,
I have to agree with what everyone else is saying. For some reason or other, I was thinking that you had been taking Entocort for a couple of months. It seems logical to assume that it might not provide relief where Prednisone had failed, but that certainly isn't chiseled in stone. If you're able to achieve remission now, it will be impossible to say whether it was due to the Entocort, the Imuran, or the combination, but I suppose you'll be so glad to see relief that it probably won't matter to you.

Tex,
Yeah, I asked the doctor how he was going to know which was helping and all he said was, "That's a good question". I think he assumes that since the Pred did not help (only a little) that the Entocort wasn't really going to help either. I think he is just using it ( because it helps some ) to help me until the Imuran really kicks in and to see if I will have side effects to the Imuran. I took Prednisone from Jan 25 until Mar 19. The last week was only 10 mg and the Entocort on top of it. I really thought the Pred would help and certainly hoped the Entocort would help since I am on the diet. I took Entocort Jan 07 but was not on the diet. I guess time will tell.
Thanks to all for your support!
