A good multivitamin
Hi All!!
Just a question for all of you. Do any of you know of a good multivitamin that's easy on the system? I know I should be taking one due to the "wonderful" MC. But I've been afraid because it could be another thing that causes trouble.
Thanks for your advice!!!

Hi Lara and
I always order any vitamins from Freeda online. They are completely free from almost all intolerances. Since we often don't know what (if any) intolerances we have when first diagnosed with MC, I believe these are the safest.
Good luck in your search!

I use a multivitamin called Isotonix. its a liquid that you take before breakfast on an empty stomach. it 'supposedly' absorbs into your body before it hits the stomach so you don't get that upset stomach. So far its the only thing that works for me. I have had blood work done after being on it and everything looks good. I guess its a common vitamin they also give to people who have had gastric bypass surgery since it doesnt need your tummy to process.
Diagnosed with MC on 1/8/2008 after 7 months of flare. 2nd colonoscopy and new diagnosis of UC on 3/11/2008.
Hi Erin,
I tried to find an ingredient list for that product, but I didn't have any luck. All I could find was references to plant bioflavanoids, (not that there's anything wrong with bioflavanoids). Do they actually list any vitamins on the label?
Incidentally, vitamins, (and other nutrients), are absorbed by the small intestine, not the stomach. In fact, the acid produced by the stomach may cause problems for some vitamin products.
In a way, the term "gastric bypass" is sort of a misnomer. While it's true that the lower part of the stomach is bypassed, the main weight loss advantage comes from the fact that in the most popular versions of that procedure, the duodenum is also bypassed, (the first third of the small intestine, where most of the digestion process and nutrient absorption takes place), and the chime, (the partially digested food from the stomach), is introduced directly into the jejunum, (the middle of the small intestine). That's why gastric bypass patients often need vitamin supplements.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Vitamin B6 4mg
Folic Acid 400mcg
Vitamin B12 75mcg
Biotin 300mcg

Calcium 50mg
Iodine 150mcg
Magnesium 25mg

I have always had a problem finding a multivitamin that wouldn't make me sick to my stomach. I used to be able to tolerate Centrum but when they made changes to the formula it bothered me. This is the only other one i have tried so far that i can tolerate.

Erin,
That's a pretty good looking list of vitamins, all right. You wouldn't have had to list them all, though - I would have taken your word on it. LOL. I just wondered it they were actually itemized on the label. I believe that's the first time that product has been mentioned on the board.
Thanks.

I'm really bad about vitamins and stuff. I have to have my husband look at them all for me to figure out what is good or not (he is a personal trainer). I had never heard of them either until my massage therapist told me about them. They are a bit expensive but the bottle lasts a long time so it kind of evens out to the price of the ones you can buy in the store.
