Mike - Have You Ever Been Tested For MAP?

Post by tex »

It's probably fair to say that you've investigated pathogenic intestinal bacteria more extensively than anyone else here. In all your testing programs, have you ever been tested for mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis?

Call me a slow learner, but I still think that the link between IBDs and MAP bacteria amounts to much more than meets the eye. It appears that every few years, another group of researchers adds a little more fuel to the fire, (along with a little more insight), but I haven't seen anything new in several years, now. Have you?

Nope, though I did do some research here and it seems to be difficult to culture or tell that it's there. I don't appear to show the signs of this bacteria either, though that doesn't mean much if my body is actually doing a decent job of fighting it off. Though given that my neutrophils are low within range, though sometimes low out of range, it does make me wonder what's going on there.

One of the Drs that I see that seems to be very progressive in his treatment (he's internal medicine dr) has a son who has Chron's, though I don't think they found the bacteria and the treatments perscribed for MAP didn't seem to help him either.

I'll have to ask him if the Naltrexone helped his son. I'm seeing him next week and plan on asking for a new CBC and Liver enzymes test to make sure that the erythromycin isn't giving me issues.

I'm going to read the links you sent as it has been a bit of time since I've looked into this. But I do remember reading some very recent research in this area as well, but don't remember what I read. LOL

Thanks,
Mike

For the most recent studies, and they go from saying there is no relationship to there is, go here:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez

And enter the following text into the "For" textbox.

(("mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis"[TIAB] NOT Medline[SB]) OR "mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis"[MeSH Terms] OR Mycobacterium paratuberculosis[Text Word]) AND "humans"[MeSH Terms]
