Tessa, Thinking about you.........

Post by moremuscle »

Good Afternoon, Tessa

Yesterday I read your thread about loosing your appetite or not being hungry and loosing weight. It makes me sad to know how you suffer  I am really sorry to hear how awful you feel. Having Microscopic Colitis can get you down in every way - Tessa, I know it may not help you much that I tell you we've all been down and out due to Microscopic Colitis but sometimes it does make you feel better to know that you are not alone.

You are not alone, darling - here is a hug for you (((((Tessa)))))

I was always very emotional while the MC symptoms were raging in my body and my entire lifestyle was running down the drain - I cried almost every day, I started meditating, I wrote in my dairy, I even prayed to God, I logged on to Sally's old GF Kitchen every day and wrote about how bad I felt and my accidents, my fears, my problems - big and small. I just didn't know where to turn; seemed the MC just kept on and on ruling my life even though I tried very hard to do the best I could to get better. The only place I really could turn that made sense was Sally's board - so I did - and then the invaluable support from my husband who was very understanding and supportive just like yours. In some ways it brought us closer than we were before.

I don't know if MC causes depression directly as a symptom but depression is definitely part of most of our lives - just ask around here and you will learn that most of us have intimate knowledge about depression; loosing one's appetite can be part of feeling depressed.

If you are on any kind of medication perhaps the loss of appetite is a side effect of your medication - you should ask your doctor or pharmacist about that.

Your husband is so lucky to have you, Tessa - you have a wonderful personality. He is right to support your GF diet efforts and I think you will both be glad you've chosen the diet. Just be sure to give yourself all the time you need to learn it - don't be hard on yourself for not knowing everything from the start and remember that making mistakes is part of the learning process.

I hope you are feeling a little less upset and a little more hungry today -
try to eat a little of the things you like the best (as long as they don't have gluten). And drink plenty of water/fluids. Some of us like potato chips very much - do you like potato chips? If so, you could go out and buy a bag of them and indulge. Try to find some potato chips that are plain with only salt added - no wheat flour.

Love,
Karen

Thank you for your support and positive vibs, Karen. Your words really help. . I am also wondering if this is part of a depression process.

I had a little hungry today at lunch and have been able to eat... The only new medicine are iron pills... Sorry for my short post... I will try to write more at night, I am going to have visits home and need to prepare...

Well, I am back again...

I ate a small GF biscuit this afternoon and drank a Nestea (By the way, do you know if Nestea is GF?)

In 1 hour I have to be in the kitchen to prepare our dinner... (No idea what it will be) :???:

We went to the grocery yesterday and ( many products I am used to have gluten) I bought some GF potato ships. Yes, I like them... After our trip to the grocery we ate some rice and an ice-cream (all GF)... I would say I had a little more appetite than the night before...
I usually drink around 1,5 litres of water every day... I am thirsty and like water... (I only repel water when I have nauseas and vomits)

GF bread has such a strange taste...

Karen, I have no words to express my gratitude for your support and help... You are so nice.
Take care, my dear friend. (cuídate, mi querida amiga)

Tessa.

Ahhhhh, I have to say ditto to what Karen told you too. I wrote a long answer to your other post, but I do also agree with Karen. Depression comes from the huge changes that come with any disease that has life altering results. And yes many of us know first hand about that. And I forgot about the effects of some meds that can cause appetite changes.
I remember one particular night when I pooped my bed, not a little tiny bit, but a horrible amount. I was so weak, and I was crying, and disgusted. I kept thinking how could I ever live like this. I washed myself, changed the bedding and went back to sleep, only to wake up to another messed bed. That time I didn't even have the energy to change the sheets, I was just too weak, I layed a big bath towel down for me to sleep on. The next morning I was running to the bathroom and vomiting also. I hurt so bad, my stomach was in agony, as well as my bowels. And I kept thinking " How can I live with this?" "How can I ever be with anyone again, if this happens?" It was a horrible time. Who wouldn't get a little depressed when things like this happen to them. Most people cannot imagine any of what happens to us on a normal day. Thank goodness you do have a husband that supports you, that is such a big help. Hopefully you can get this figured out in regards to your appetite loss. I wish I could do more to help you through this time, but am sending you warm good vibes at least.

Gentle hugs
Wendy

Hi, Wendy. Your words are so helpful too... I think I am starting to feel all your positive vibs sent to me, because I am starting to feel better. I am even thinking to go into the kitchen and prepare dinner... And my stomach... Hey! Is that hungry?

I think I better run and try to eat something quickly...

Thank you for your help, mi querida amiga.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Tessa - you're so funny  Did you really feel hungry all of a sudden?

I hope you figured out what to prepare for dinner for your guests?

You can always prepare something traditional and easy, like for example a roast, pork chops, or steak with steamed or sauteed vegetables and rice. Or instead of steamed/sauteed vegetables you can serve a fresh salad with an oil/vinegar dressing.

That's how to make a GF dinner in a hurry and noone will know it is GF except for you.

Love,
Karen

P.S. I don't know if Nestea is gluten free - I tried searching on the Nestea.com site but there was no information on content. If you would like to know you can list the ingredients here and we can help you figure it out. Just read the label on the Nestea bottle/jar/can and look for where is says INGREDIENTS

Oh (((((((((((((((((Tessa))))))))))))))))))))))))

Hope your dinner went well. I also had/have trouble eating but find that the longer I wait to eat, the worse I feel. I snack often during the day. Sometimes 3 or 4 potato chips (GF), 1/2 0f a GF cookie, slice of turkey, jar of nothing added baby food. If I wait to feel hungry, I ususally don't feel like eating. How did you make out finding GF food? Hope you start feeling better soon. How is your diarrhea? Love & light, Rita

Hi Karen

You wrote: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Tessa - you're so funny Did you really feel hungry all of a sudden?

Yes, I did... And ate some rice with ham... It was my first (better) meal in days...

Even though my guests did not stay home for dinner, your idea for a GF dinner in a hurry is excellent. I take note of it.

Thank you for trying to know about NEstea... I had a post in the forum confirming it is GF and feel very happy about.

Hi, Rita... Nice to read a post from you.

My dinner went much better than the previous night. At least I had a little more hungry...
You are right. I usually snacked often during the day, but since I have lost appetite, not so much now.
I told my husband you said to wait until feeling hungry to eat and it is not a bad idea... Thank you for the suggestion.

I have good news about GF food here:GF food is very easy to find. I even found a supermarket (with good prices) and many GD products (ham, hamburguers, pasta, etc.)
The bad news is that I have not been able to find a GF restaurant. Though some mention they have a GF diet, I have called them to check this information and they had no idea what a GF diet was... They just offered to cook whatever I wanted, but that is not exactly a GF diet... I am still investigating for your trip.

Diarrhea?... I went 3 times yesterday, but still have abdominal pain when I start eating and when I am standing up for a while...
Thank you for caring.

Love,
Tessa.

Hi Tessa,

It's good to hear how much better you were feeling yesterday -and that you had appetite for some ham and rice. Does the super market sell GF ham? Does it have the FACE stamp of approval that you mentioned or how do you know it is GF? I haven't had ham for a year now - I wonder if it is something I will ever taste again? I am intolerant of dairy and corn too so it is more difficult to tolerate something processed.

Isn't it fantastic that you supermarket carries GF products at a good price - I wish they did that here too.

When I read that you have to go to the bathroom only 3 times in a day I feel like telling you that you are in some ways a very lucky lady  I used to run like a pendulum back and forth to the bathroom 12-20 times per day and then have accidents during sleep - like Wendy - when things were bad. On the other hand I never had much pain - just the gurgling and gas. So I was lucky in that respect

Let us hear about some of your GF products - your finds!! Perhaps we can get the same things here? I am very curious.

Love,
Karen

Tessa...Have you tried decaf Iced green tea? I love it....I make it from Bigelow green tea with a hint of Lemon. Stick a few tea bags (depending on strength you like) and put it in fridge overnight. I take it to work with me. I really hope you feel better and you fell more like eating soon. We are all here for you...this desease is so hard sometimes and others it's not that hard. It just depends what is happening in our lives at the time. Hugs and Love Oma

Oh, I am so sorry to read you have no GF ham there... I have to feel lucky then, because we have plenty of GF products...

Apart from having an association called FACE that puts their logo on GF products (this stamp states they have been tested and are GF), there are also GF products with an international stamp.
Furthermore, there are GF products that just mention "SIN GLUTEN" which means they are GF and FACE includes them on their list as GF products, even though they have no stamp (getting the stamps seems to cost a lot for fabricants)...
I am not yet a member of FACE so I cannot buy the GF list of products, but once I have my test results (if I have gluten sensitivity) I will join.

I know you do not understand spanish (at least most of you) but you can see some pictures of GF products on the following website to have an idea. (But this is considered to be one of the most expensive groceries of GF products) Have a look: http://www.polenweb.com/default.php?cPath=27_43&
(copy and paste this address on the google bar... If you can´t, tell me) If you click on one product you will be able to read the description and price (in Euros).

One of the groceries with GF products at a very good price, have several GF products such as Sausage, salami, cooked ham, highland ham, mortadella etc.

Hi Tessa,

I looked at some of the products at that link you listed. There is a good selection, but every one that I looked at contains corn, (maiz), so I hope you're not corn-intolerant, as I am. Every one of them seems to contain either corn starch, corn flour, or corn sugar, (dextrose).

Of course, you probably are not corn-intolerant, as that is pretty rare.

Love,
Wayne

Well, I have no idea if I am corn intollerant, I hope not... Even though, as you know, I am not feeling very well these days... And if you have read, now I also have my neck limph nodes swollen...

Thank you for telling me...
