Insomnia

Post by jen051279 »

I was just wondering if anyone else here suffers from sleeping problems. All my life I have waken up at various times. As I am getting older I notice that I have a lot more trouble falling alseep and staying alseep. On average I am up 1-2 hours every night. Just wondered if this could be realated at all to the UC. Let me know. Thanks.

I suffer occasionally from Insomnia but i find it's usually medicine related, like right now because i am on prednisone.

The only time i am unable to sleep due to my UC is when i am in a flare, as my problems seem to occur mostly during the night keeping me from getting any sleep.
Diagnosed with MC on 1/8/2008 after 7 months of flare. 2nd colonoscopy and new diagnosis of UC on 3/11/2008.

As far as I know, I don't have UC, but ever since my symptoms started, (about 10 years ago), I haven't been able to sleep for more than an average of about five hours per night. Before that, I slept the normal eight hours, of course.

I don't remember when my sleeping problems started. Sometimes I have trouble getting to sleep. Seems like I'm awake all night, then sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night or very, very early in the AM and have trouble getting back to sleep. Sometimes I am awake every two hours all through the night. Don't know why it varies so much.

Now, those are the problems I have experienced in the past.

I am now taking Ambien (not Ambien CR because insurance wouldn't approve the CR version). For the most part I guess I do fairly well. I don't have any nights when I seem to be awake all night. However, I still have problems getting to sleep at times or the early AM waking up. Don't know why I'm so resistant to sleep. I LOVE to sleep. HaHa I have noticed that with the Ambien I don't really like to get up in the morning even though I might not be sleeping. Maybe I'm just lazy.

My sleeping problems started when I hit the good ole menopause..
That was 4 years ago.
I still have problems falling asleep. I can lay there 1-2 hours.
I started EffexorXR 2 weeks ago and I notice now that along with the not being able to fall asleep, I'm waking up now at 5-5:30 am.. ARGH!!!
I have Lunesta, which works very well in helping to fall asleep and it doesn't make you feel groggy in the morning, but I try to not take it unless I really feel exhausted and want a good nights sleep.

I guess I should hav ebeen more specific. I do not stay up all night (which is what I always thought insomnia is). I have the same kind of problems as you starfire. I lay awake forever trying to sleep. I usually wake upat least once if not 2 or 3 timmes a night and struggle to go back to sleep. I haven't gone to the doctor for it yet but I'm beginning to think I need to. It is at lease good to know that other people experience this. I hate the thought of taking sleeping pills but I might have to.

Hi there, I have been an insomniac way before I was diagnose with MC. I usually keep Rozerem around. It is the very leat addicting and I don;t feel groggy the next day. So I know that it is not related to tyhe Asacol I took. Sometimes I don't want to take a sleeping pill so I will Take two capsules of Valerian Root. That doen't make me groggy either. Hope you can get some sleep. It's real tough when you don't get sleep you need. Love Oma

I've always had sleep problems and they were worse when I'd wake up with hot flashes. I thought I was done with the hot flashes, but lately I seem to be getting them again. I've had them for 12 years now.

I used to take an aspirin at night to help me get back to sleep. You all know what a mistake that was. Now I just accept that I won't get a good night's sleep. I don't want to take any more meds.
