Update from GI's visit today
Ok what can I say but it was very entertaining.
1 There is no such thing as food intolerances linked to MC but a cross over with IBS.
2 He has never had patients before state that they have suffered side effects from using Predisone.
3 Normally in approx 3 years CC burns itself out and the bowel should return to normal even with a collagenous band.
4 Arthritis is not linked to MC only Crohn's and UC.
5 To maintain remission use on and off of Entocort.
I am so looking forward to any comments on the above items lol........lol

Mini,
LOL. Either he is not telling the truth, or you must be the first patient for whom he ever prescribed Prednisone.
He based comment number 3 on this article, which was published 10 years ago, and it was so ridiculous that no one ever even bothered to dispute it. Basically, it shows that without any treatment, over 80 % of patients with Lymphocytic colitis, have no symptoms after 38 months. Try telling that to the members of this board who have had LC for many years. The article shows once again, that you can prove anything, if you go about it in the "right" way. LOL.

Thanks for making us laugh.
As Barbara said, though, it's sad, because he was either trying to do his best, (and he doesn't know what he's doing), or he is not being honest with you. Either way, you really do need a new GI doctor, (if you can find one who is better qualified).

Hi Mini,
Maybe you should put your post in the "Jokes" forum!! HAH! The good news is that you are now able to laugh at the uninformed and inaccurate comments made by your doc. Will he be willing to work with you as a partner on a worthwhile treatment plan? Hope so.
Love,
Polly

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
GASP!!!! I can't breathe!!! Resolves itself in ONLY 3 years? as in 36 months of nonstop diarrhea....np problemo!!! piece of cake!! this is amazing that he could even say that with a straight face....I asked one of my docs one time how would it be for him to have D running down his legs into his socks and shoes and that was between the first and second patient!! Now he had to excuse himself and change, clean up as best as he could and pray he would make it to noon....he literally blanched and referred me to a GI....who said i was normal....sigh....
Gosh, Mini, I wish I could give you a big hug...here...this will have to do...

Thanks guys for the back up, I am still laughing at what he said but none of his comments went without challenge! However, each time I stated that there was no real research to back up his statements all I got back was that is not relevant as long as you don't have 'D' that is the only relevant factor, the ability to control the symptoms!
I informed him that I had done my research as he suggested back in November and, also about this forum and the suffering you guys have taken over the years through MC along with the various factors that seem to contribute to the condition. His reply...............'that is not relevant'.
All I can say is I just smiled at him and said 'there is little research that has been done recently hence no real facts or basis on which to make those statements'. LOL within seconds the session was ended by him his final statement I will see you in 4 months for review.
OK so the management plan is I take Entocort for 3 weeks, stop wait to see what happens if the 'D' returns I start taking the Entocort again, this I just keep doing until the problem stops?!
Ah lol............lol what can you say GI's huh. Oh well at least I got to see the main man this time around the apprentence I saw in January said it was IBS and did not seem to believe in the condition at all. Well my dears bring on the ducking stool and Leeches no doubt I am now classed as a witch at the local hospital lol I did not realise we are still in the 15th Century within the NHS of England. I just laughed all the way back to the car park came home and did this hahaha. Well after the previous 4 years I would like to say I am but?
Tex
I am going to print that study off and send it to the GI
Barbara
Aww thanks sadly because we have a National Health Service I have no choice in what doctors I see I can not get private medical insurance because the condition already exist.
Anyway guys I am fine, still laughing from yesterday x

That doctor needs to develop either form of MC. Don't really care which one - same results. He'd sure learn a lesson!!
But, according to him, this is MY YEAR to return to normal!! Can't wait!!..............NO WAIT, that was last year. I missed it!!

Hi Mini,
I really enjoy reading your posts, and especially these about your visit with your GI doctor. LOL. It's a shame, but it seems that in every country with a national health service, the doctors don't seem to be very "ambitious". IOW, they don't seem to be interested in trying to be "the best that they can be". Maybe they feel that they're not paid well enough, or they don't see much opportunity for advancement, but they seem to behave more like bureaucrats, than doctors.
I'm not sure that medical care is much better in this country, because there sure don't seem to be very many doctors who know enough about diseases such as MC, to be able to make even a reasonable attempt to treat it, but at least most of the doctors here seem to be "ambitious".
Actually, I suppose your doctor's plan for using Entocort, the way you outlined, is probably better than most, so all in all, the outcome isn't too bad. At least he didn't prescribe any leeches, so I guess he didn't think that they were relevant, either. LOL.
I'm not sure that I would send him a copy of that article, though - it would just give him an opportunity to say "See, I was right!" LOL.
I hope you're having a great weekend.

Hahaha I love the replies.................. oh well two days on and I am still laughing as I resort back to Entocort starting at 6mg daily until my three years are up and this condition burns itself out lol......lol Hmm it is really hard to figure out this three year timescale as the problem started four years ago Oh well doc knows best

I am actually quite sad at not getting the Leeches as I have heard it is the latest celebrity craze instead of botox to keep skin young looking
Well our NHS has so gone downhill over the years many moons ago when I was nursing it was something to be proud of, people came from all over the world to be trained in the UK due to the standards we once had. It is not salary that is the problem as most consultants in the NHS earn around a basic of £85,000 also do private work during NHS time! They can make a large bonus on top of this amount by meeting with targets set by the government. Our whole NHS is driven by politics and stats. Our GP's have a target time of 7 minutes per patient in order to achieve target! LOL just a few examples of our ex PM Tony Blair's wonderful policies to protect our NHS .
Oh well lol have at least I have a management plan with the Entocort so I am grateful for that, if I can have my quality of life back I can live with that decision. I am looking within the UK to have some private test done when I can afford to in order to help myself deal like we say 'knowledge is power'. I am just happy to be able to plan my life and do the things I enjoy doing without worrying or wondering where the next public bathroom is .

Mini,
Perhaps the most "relevant" part of your doctor's plan is figuring out when to start counting those three years. Maybe that's where his skill lies. LOL.
From the past, I recall hearing so often how your NHS was the envy of the world, but I suppose it's like virtually all government regulated programs - politicians and bureaucrats just can't keep from continuing to "improve" them, until they're damaged beyond repair. And, those in a position to financially benefit from them, keep finding ways to "exploit" the system, and "milk" money from it. Doctors in this country do that with medicare and all other insurance, and I suppose it happens all over the world. <sigh>

Amen! We so often say that we are all different, but regarding what you have said in that statement, we are all alike, too, because we all feel exactly the same way. Maybe that should be our motto. It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
