Hi there! I need you guys again - sorry to show up only when I need help. So after I tapered off Prednisone I resumed my symptoms in about 1 week. I too was soooo in denial and it took until the symptoms became undeniable last week before I called my GI. So on friday I started Entocort. I take 3 in the am. I thought I was better yesterday. Today has been a very bad day. As luck would have it I was hit while visiting my dad and Stepmom about an hour drive from my house. Do you guys know about how long it takes for this med to kick in? Also, is it ok to take imodium with it? I am starting to think of trying the tests for intolerences as well. I have hesitated because I had been on a strict glutin free diet for 2 years when i had my first flare up of colitis. My GI told me I can have glutin but I am not so sure. I am feeling very discouraged again. This colitis has been life changing. I have even turned down better job oppotunitites because of it. Do any of you find it hard to explain to those close to you? I have only a very few people in my life who seem to understand. Most of my friends think I have IBS even though I have told them about IBD several times. (It took this second flare up for my husband to catch on.) I decided its not worth going through it over and over so I don't bother to correct them. Oh gosh, I am complaining. Sorry to hear that you've had a relapse.
When I started taking the Entocort it only took me 12 days to see an improvement. During those 12 days, I would take Lomotil (a prescription type anti-diarrhea med), so yes, you can take Immodium. I prefered the Lomotil over the Immodium because the Immodium caused cramping with me.
I truly understand your frustration dealing with the MC. I had to quit my job 5 years ago, because I was running to the bathroom so much. Then I felt like a prisoner in my own home being fearful of going anywhere and having an accident.
I had a heck of a time with family members. We have to realize that they don't have a clue when it comes to MC. You do get tired of trying to explain to them what is going on with you. Mine thought it was a simple case of diarrhea that just went away after a couple days.. I finally emailed them with information that was on the internet and then they finally realized I wasn't some kind of goofy extremist when I couldn't go to invites or at times take care of my parents when they were ill, etc...
You go ahead and come here any time that you want to vent, scream, or whatever you feel like doing to release the frustration!!

I found that the Entocort eased the 'D' within 48 hours however, it did seem to take approx 5 weeks before I started to feel a sense of well being again. As Dee has said no worries on the rant we all understand what this feels like and sometimes how hard it is to try and explain the condition to others.

So sorry to hear that your symptoms are back. Please don't apologize for coming here to complain, vent, ask for help, or whatever - that's why this site is here, and as everyone here will tell you, we've all been down that road ourselves.
As you have discovered, no one really understands this disease except for those who actually have it. It's a shame that all GI docs don't have it, because if they did, they would be forced to learn how to treat it correctly. Even most doctors consider it to be "just a little diarrhea", so it's no wonder that friends and family look at it that way, but there's no question that it's definitely a life-altering disease.
To add to the responses that have already been posted - it's difficult to predict how long it will take for the Entocort to begin providing some relief, since everyone is somewhat different, but hopefully it will be sooner, rather than later.

It took 3-4 weeks for me to see results from the Entocort. I agree that family members don't always "get it." Most people haven't a clue what this disease is like. We do and that's why we stick together. Drop in any time to vent, ask questions or share insights. We welcome it all.

Thanks for the responses! I am at work this morning. I am hoping to get through my days here as best I can. I feel better knowing that it may take some time for the Entocort to work. I had such a quick response to Prednisone that i was hoping for the same with this medication. The difficulty with friends and family is frustrating. It helps to know its not just mine who seem to have such a hard time understanding. Thanks for the support!

Oh, one point that I forgot about as I learned it on my own and didn't think much about it. But the liquid stuff I surely wouldn't recomend for us. The Alcohol and sugar can't be much help for sure. If anything the pill form, the chewable form is nasty, blech! But I bet the Lomotil is a lot better as it wouldn't have all the additives that would upset most of us.Dee wrote:Hi Kitty!!

Thanks again. Mike and Dee thank you for your input. I think the imodium did give me stomach cramps. Its hard to say given the falre up but I don't plan to take it again unless I have no other choice. Also, I found out that I was not supposed to stop the Asacol. I had stopped it friday when I started Entocort. I swear I thought the nurse told me to but yesterday she said I should continue Asacol. Anyhow, my sister gave me a few Lomotil that she had on hand after a very bad stomach bug. I am still leaning toward the Gluten free diet again. I'll keep reading and learing from you all and see.
