My MC symptoms are disappearing with the Welchol (I'm taking it for too much bile salts going into my system from having my gallbladder removed) So, is this the answer? do you think I should still have the Enterolab testing?

Hmmmmmmmm. Never look a gift horse in the mouth, when you've got MC. LOL.
Will the Welchol be an ongoing treatment? If so, you might as well see what happens, at this point. If it's only temporary, getting the tests now would give you a couple of weeks head start on figuring out what to do when you stop taking it, or in the event the symptoms start coming back.

Interesting, I had always thought that bile played some role in MC, but could never figure out what. Interesting that this sequesterant helped. Though the Welchol might also be binding other toxins as well, in fact I believe it would bind up any bacterial endotoxins as well.
On a different path this drug is used for folks to control hyperlipidemia, the reason I find this interesting is that I have something around my eye that is supposed to be rare and is associated with hyperlipidemia, yet my lipid levels haven't ever been very high. The spot around my eye is called a xanthalasma or xanthoma, basically a small spot that is made up of fat, caused by a disfunction in lipid motabolism.
I've wondered if this might be related to MC, yet I've not heard back from anyone here if they have similar spots around their eyes.

Oh, and one other thing. Boy am I getting off subject here. LOL The CD1d protein is involved in glycolipid sensing, basically it's used to detect certain virus, bacteria (including mycobacteria), fungi and present it to the immune system. Well in folks with MC supposedly we have fewer numbers of these CD1d proteins, how this relates I'm not sure, but we're still talking about fats, and it seems to be involved in other lipids that are used in the body.
In fact this very recent article seems to imply that blood lipids play a role in these cells.

This was one of my many wonderings as well. Perhaps too much bile, a different or more toxic form of bile, even too little bile might lead to inflamation.Becky wrote:Interesting!

Honestly I have no idea if or how it helps. But I do know that there was one study done on something like Welchol in MC patients who got better when using it.
Mike ...my DH has a large number of these things under each eye....has for 20 years or so...chlolesterol moderately high....
