Hi All,
I received an update from Peggy, on her mother's on-going gallbladder issue. Apparently, she had to go back to the ER yesterday, where the doctors decided that the meds that she had been prescribed a few weeks ago when she was there, were exactly what she should not have been taking.
After running some tests, her doctor decided to go ahead and do the surgery late yesterday, (about 5 pm), rather than wait until May 9th to do it. Everything went fine, and Peggy spoke with her again this morning, and she is recovering nicely.
Apparently, a large gallstone, (her husband described it as "huge"), was plugging the duct, so she is very relieved to be free of the pain, finally. Since they were able to use laparoscopy, she should be able to return home tomorrow.

Absolutely!! I can't imagine that kind of pain with a stone that size, she must have been in agony. Give her a hug from me, Polly.

Peggy came over today with a lovely bouquet of flowers from all of you - thank you so much.
Yes, it's been an interesting time since January with my ongoing saga.
The medication was morphine and there seems to be mixed opinions about it's use on gall bladder patients, but the consensus was that it can irritate the gall bladder, so demerol seems to the drug of choice. It certainly helped me through the pain.
I still don't know the size of the gallstone that was blocking the "neck of the gall bladder," as the Dr. described it, but he said that it was significant. I will be getting a report from the pathologist when I see the surgeon for my follow-up in a week or two. He also told me that there were a few spots of gangrene starting to form, so we got to it none too soon.
I am still experiencing some pain, but have some good drugs to help me through it. He also put me on two different types of strong antibiotics - we were laughing because one said the possible side effect was diahrrea and the other was constipation - hahaha - kind of cancel each other out, don't they? The diahrrea seems to be taking over, but not excessive and it actually feels good to get a good clean-out.
Can't get dressed yet, as the waistband of clothing hurts, so I'm a lady of leisure in my housecoat and nightgown.
