GF Foods
Well, yesterday, Geoff took the afternoon off to do some work at the house (his brother is *supposed* to come this afternoon to wire up the hot tub), and so we made it over to Claremont (our nearest shopping metropolis) before 5:00. Well there is a healthfood store there I've been wanting to go in, so we did. And WOW were there tons of offerings. I picked up some EnerG donuts (yum..had one this AM), Mi-Del gingersnaps, some rice lasagna noodles (now have to make Geoff the lasagna he's been wanting), some pancake mix (namaste foods), I forget what else. There were other products too that I'll be back to ask you guys about some day before I try them.
Big question though. Is spelt ok for gf? They had quite a lot of products made with spelt flour and I couldn't remember if it was okay.

Hi Katy,
As Polly has already pointed out, spelts are not GF. Spelt is an ancient grain, closely related to wheat. For some reason or other, it seems to be enjoying some sort of renaissance these days in HF stores, but alas, it's not for us.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Hi Kathy,
I 2nd Polly's comment about it being like a celebration when you find new food. The ones I just found from Good Eatz in my local natural food stores were like Christmas presents - one I had to pay dearly for. Just anything new every now and then is so exciting.
We are both lucky that our husbands are going along with the diet. It makes life a whole lot easier.
Love, Maggie

Geoff is SO supportive. He was definately skeptical at first, especially when I was living in Boston and he didn't see me when I was gf and when I had cheated, but now seeing how much better I feel, he will do all he can to make sure I stay as gf as possible.
Polly, I am feeling better. Yesterday I was exhausted after overdoing on Monday, but this morning I felt pretty good from the get go, so I am on the mend. I got my first Lupron shot yesterday too, so now the anxiety of that decision is over...its too late to worry about it now. So far I've had no ill effects, but I guess it can take a couple weeks or even the second shot before the hot flashes and such start. But at least I shouldn't bleed again.

Hi Katy,
Congratulations on finding the wonderful healthfood store full of GF products. It's always cool to find "new" products that we can have.
I am not so sure what is going on with your health - unfortunately, I am hopelessly uneducated when it comes to understanding certain diseases/problems. I read your post somewhere else a few days ago where you explained what you were doing. I hope it isn't going to be too rough on you. Be careful and surround yourself with loving supportive people.
Love,
Karen

Spelt
Hi Katy,
The way I remember the spelt is that I used B.R.O.W.S. to remember all the things that aren't on the gluten free diet -- barley, rye, oats, wheat, and spelt. As you know, there are other things, but these are the most common, so it seems.
Hope the treatment goes fine, and makes you all better.
Yours, Luce
