Carrie,

I read your response to Dee's post. That's really frustrating, to say the least. It's very rare for both Pred and Entocort to strike out, (as I'm sure you're well aware). I wonder if Rick might have the HLA-DR 8 gene, and it makes one unresponsive to prednisolone, also.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11742191

Please stick with the diet, and don't give up hope. Back when I was searching for a solution for my own symptoms, no doctor ever offered me Entocort, Predniosone, or any other med of that sort, so I stuck with the diet, since it was my only option, (even though my doctors said it wouldn't help). It took over a year before I saw any significant improvements, but it finally worked.

I still wonder about the possibility of a bacterial infection of some sort, since pred and/or budesonide would be ineffective against bacteria. I never thought I would say this, but I'm beginning to wonder if a two week treatment with Cipro might be worth a try, (along with a good probiotic program, of course). Before doing that, though, I think I would try at least one more C. diff culture, in case Vancomycin is called for, instead of Cipro. I can't remember - has Rick had any antibiotics since his symptoms began?

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Thanks for the concern and info, I was unaware, or had forgotten about that gene....that could be possible....

He has had a round of Cipro a while back, plus a round of one of the new OMG new generation antibiotics also. Neither of which helped at all....Will probably be going back to the doc to see what's next... :???:

We are not giving up on the diet Sweetheart, at this point, it, and giving up his smokeless tobacco ( and all of it's scary additives ) are all we have to go on. Just getting pretty bummed at this point in the game...
