Hi there,
Long time no write, and I forgot to report back to you what I heard.
The sis attended a continuing ed thing earlier in the year, and reported back on some things that we've known for a long time, but it was good to finally hear some of the top GI's in the country talking about this stuff.
This thing was sponsored by the national organization for GI docs, by the way, so we're finally getting somewhere.
We had already begun to see that a broader type of gluten sensitivity than just the classic flat vili in celiac disease was being talked about at previous conferences, but at this one, not only did they discuss the broader role of gluten in various autoimmune conditions, but also, the similar damage to the gut from the other allergens, particularly the ones we must commonly discover in this group.
My sis thought it was especially good that they mentioned that gluten ataxia could be permanent in 6 months if the gluten free diet was not
maintained. This should cause any doc (many generalists in attendence as well as specialists of other types) to realize the importance of early diagnosis as well as treatment as early as possible.
Welp, this thing suddenly wants to do an update, and I want to shut my lids for the night. Things are continuing to slowly decline over all for Mother, but some days are better than others. At least she doesn't seem to be in any pain, for which I'm thankful.
Hope all of you are getting along well these days.
Hope to check in again before too long. Miss you guys!
Yours, Luce

So great to hear from you, Luce!! Thank you for updating us about not only what is on your mind these days but about your Mom also (and I know she is primary in your thoughts). I'm so glad she is not in a lot of pain.

Hi Luce,
It's good to hear from you again, and I'm certainly glad to hear that the GI docs are finally beginning to wake up to reality. Maybe we'll eventually begin to see some real progress in treating IBDs.
Thank you for the update, and please check in whenever you can.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
