Slow Loading??

Post by starfire »

Are the pages loading very, very slowly for anyone else? Seems to be only this site that does on my computer. I've already tried the clear cookies link.

Hi Shirley,

It seems to be loading normally for me, but, of course, my connection speed this morning is only running around 110 Kbps.

Not a problem with other sites, either.

Shirley,

When did you first notice that it was slow. Was it yesterday?

It runs slow when going from one forum to another.
Say from the main message board to the others.
Shirley, is this what you are observing too??

Okay, I just removed three modifications that I made to the code on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. Did that make any difference in the loading speed? I'll be surprised if it did, but who knows?

I'm guessing that my ISP/Host is having server problems, but if that's the case, there's not much point in me calling their tech support on a weekend, because the admin won't be there on weekends, and the guys who are on duty don't have the authority to do any serious server maintenance - because all the discussion boards are usually hosted on a single server, and one wrong keystroke could wipe out everything on that server, and they don't keep backups for discussion board databases, (that's my responsibility, and I just backed up our database around noon, today).

IOW, if you're still having problems tomorrow, I'll have them check it out. With my download speed about a thousand times slower than yours, it's pretty tough to notice any difference on my terminal, due to a slower response time from their server - unless it's reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaalllllllly slow.

Nope, didn't help!
There is a stall of about 45 seconds before the site comes up.

Okay, that's helpful information. It takes mine about 10 seconds to load, after clicking on a shortcut on my desktop - except that it takes an additional 20 seconds to load the footer, (everything below the forums, on the index page).

Once I'm logged in, it only takes about 5 seconds to fully load a page, when I go from one forum to another, but it always takes about 30 seconds to fully load the index page, (including the footer). This is the way my connection has always performed, though.

You're pretty sure that this problem started yesterday, (not two weeks ago - when I added the cookie removal link)?

No, I didn't have the problem until yesterday.
It was running fine until then.

Okay thanks, that gives me some facts to relay to them, when I describe the problem to them tomorrow.

I guess I'll reinstall the modifications that I removed while checking this out.

I'll give them a few hours tomorrow morning before I call them, in case someone else has already reported the problem, (it usually takes a while for guys in that position to get organized on Monday morning anyway, and put out any little "brush" fires that might have erupted over the weekend. If it should begin working correctly before mid-morning tomorrow, please let me know.

Hi

Yes, I thought it was my ISP causing the problem but, it seems to be fine on other sites, only in the last few days this has been a problem with this site. So glad there is already a thread for this problem as I was about to create one

Sorry, I've been out all day.

I still have the problem.

The initial page before log in takes an awful long time to come up and after that the next page takes about the same time.

It started either Friday or Saturday for me. I can't remember which, but I think it was Friday sometime.

OK, just tried Mozilla Firefox and it loaded much quicker. Pretty much normal I think. Maybe it's a glitch with M. Explorer.

Hmmmmmmmm. That's interesting. IE loads slightly faster than Firefox for me - about 30 seconds, versus 40 for Firefox. Strange. Firefox should be faster.
